A recent poll shows that nearly half of americans have BANNED MONOPOLY on family game nights because it causes FIGHTS over sore losers and cheaters!!

1/5 people have shelfed the game at home because of family scuffles and most have banished all of hasbro's popular game because of it

44% of people surveyed said they have banned the game where family game nights became popular during the pandemic

20% said it was often or always disrupted by competitive or unfriendly behaviour including outbursts by those losing or someone accusing another player of cheating or 2 or more getting into argument over property rights.

Competition brings out the best in some people but the worst in others said Justin Kemppainen who is the director of Z-Man Games

71% of boomers over 57 say they've never had a problem however compared to 57% of Gen Xers and 38% of millennials and 24% of Gen Zers

Other games that families have banned are UNO at 37%, Sorry! at 27%, Scrabble at 25% and Jenga at 24%

I don't even know how long Monopoly is supposed to last. Every time I've played it we play for like 30 mins then everyone just starts cheating when they get bored.

Cheating is just part of board games. If you dont get caught then it is allowed.

I get it, but it's more about the people playing than the game. Monopoly tends to bring the pettiness out of people.

I wouldnt bandit or anything. I will say it takes a long time to actual play it. I did use to play with my brother and sister because I kept getting different Monopoly boards. Like the Spongebob one. I like the other games they banned, as well...

It's a bit amusing to me that the #1 complaint about Monopoly is how long it takes when people intentionally change rules to make it take longer.

Rules like:

1.) Landing on Free Parking gives you some amount of money.

2.) Everyone must go around the board once for the first ttime without buying anything before you can buy a property.

3.) Refusing to trade properties no matter what meaning getting a monopoly is more luck than anything else.

4.) Ignoring the auction rule that if the person that lands on a property refuses to buy it then you are supposed to auction it off.

You watch the hardcore Monopoly players play this game and you see how much faster this game can be.

And then you'd get smart asses who think monopoly auctions should work like TV auctions and will take forever to bid and then only raise the bid by a dollar

my husband is the 2011 new hampshire monopoly state champion and he says high-level games usually take about an hour. theres a time limit so they can't go over 90 minutes

Monopoly is a terrible board game. Even if you want ways to piss the other players off theres better games out there.
