maybe calling it a "cabin" is a misnomer because it had electricity + running water.

the sky was very clear at night, though, if that's what you mean. i spent like 30 minutes at least each night sitting out on the deck just staring and listening.

arrived on 05/29 and left 06/05 and the total was $1,438.97 (~$205/night). 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom, big enough kitchen with a pretty large living room and a decent deck. i split the bill 3 ways, so my share wasn't too much at all.

Waterfalls are a huge fetish, but damn, I especially love that photo of the endless expanse of meadow. I see places like that in movies and usually just assume we don't have those in the US, lol.

there were so many mini waterfalls along that river (Little River), a photo op presented itself like every 5 minutes. highly recommend checking out the park.

that meadow was Cade's Cove.

there are hikes that are like 8-10 miles long, but we didn't do anything that intense. the 'average' one of the main trails is like 3-5 miles. there are a bunch of unnamed "quiet walkways" that are like ~1 mi long scattered throughout the park.

i was with my mom and step-dad so we kinda took it easy.

Looks cool. I've never been to The South but if I did I'd go to places like that. Makes me think of Where The Red Fern Grows. I don't know if that's where it took place but it was some similar area at least. Loved that book as a kid

i've vacationed in TN and NC a bunch over the years, they are lovely states. the only negative / downside is the rampant confederate flags and now MAGA stuff everywhere. but the individual people are usually really friendly.

but i think about those mountains every dang day

my dad lived in the Outer Banks, NC for a number of years. he eventually moved back because he and my step-mom missed family too much, but the secondary motivator was all of the rampant "southern" politics.

We used to visit my lady's grandparents in that area every summer. One of my absolute favorite places.
