I absolutely adored that dog and worked a lot with her on trust and socializing, I was the first guy she ever warmed up to which just melted my heart.

When we ended up adopting her out, it was to a couple living in northeast washington(we were just outside Portland oregon). We gave them all sorts of warnings about how she's skittish so you should just be chill with her for a few days and she'll be ok.

They stopped at a friend's house on the way home and let her out in their unfenced backyard.

My mom and I spent two days searching the fields out there. People nearby had seen her and left food out so we knew she was there. The second day we brought our beagle who she had bonded with and she finally ran up to us. That couple did not get her back.

Did have a happy ending though. A couple days after we'd signed everything for the adoption, someone living nearby who had met her on one of her walks called about adopting her, and after we took her back from the first couple we adopted curry out there and got to see her occasionally on walks.

you did right by the dog by giving her to a better home. those people have a lot of learning to do before adopting a dog with behavior issues.

do you foster regularly? it's something i've semi-considered for the last couple of years ever since adopting my current pup from a rescue / foster agency.

That was the only time we adopted one out we had fostered, the others we just adopted ourselves lol

reminds me of my grandmothers dog from years ago, an Australian shepard that had severe anxiety issues during thunderstorms, who had to be adopted out when she broke her hip and had to move to a building that didn't allow dogs.

he went to a couple my grandma knew, within a year they had him euthanized because of the anxiety issues. turned out that one time during his freak out they locked him in a closet and he ended up chewing his way out so they put him down...

Jesus christ that makes my blood boil. I had a dog with issues with thunderstorms. He actually wouldn't do any damage, he'd just try and get in the garage or laundry room. But he'd take down the dog gate and let the other dogs loose in the house...

reminds me of how one of mine is scared to freaking death of fireworks. during the week of the 4th she basically refuses to go for a walk at night. and then it takes her like a week or two after to be comfortable with it.
