I hate how the movies never tell you which one he's actually related to.

Damn. See if he wasn't blood related I was thinking he probably wouldn't feel as bad when he was indirectly responsible for his death.

In most continuities Uncle Ben and Aunt May raised Peter from the time he was 3 or so. It's why Peter goes out of his way for Aunt May even though he's only related to her by marriage.

I don't think the blood relation is what bothered Peter the most about Ben's death.

Reminder that there is a terrible comic that was almost canon that was going to make Aunt May Peter's mother.

Other reasons for it being terrible include the uncomfortable covers.

Idk the dude was pretty beat up about it. I understand he kinda looks to them as his parents but the whole thing just makes me wonder why they weren't his parents to begin with. Was there really any good reason?

His Parents were CIA Agents who were killed by a communist version of Red Skull in Algeria when Peter was very young.

Actually I think the Amazing Spider-man movies mentioned it. It never got fully explained cause Amazing 3 was canceled. But I remember some flashbacks with his parents and in the 2nd movie I think Peter found something his parents hid before they died that was connected to them being spies

not in the slightest

when it comes to my aunts and uncles, they've all been together for as long as I can remember, so it's pretty uncommon for me to even think of them as separate entities. if there were any couples where I knew my parent's sibling for a significant amount of time before they got married, then sure. but it wouldn't be directly because they're my "blood" relative

There's too much nonsense for movies to cover.

I overall dislike these sort of plots personally. It's like comic book writers can't help themselves by trying to give everything some over the top explanation.

Okay, tell me more. I knew none of this.

It's been a while since I read it, and I will never reread it again. So to summarize the Wikipedia summary.

It stars two friends Mary and May. They meet two brothers Richard and Ben. Oh, what a coincidence!, Those are the names of Peter Parker's parents, aunt and uncle! May pairs up with Ben and Mary pairs up with Richard. May puts out, because a fortune teller (?!) once told her no child would ever call her "mom". Mary doesn't put out right away, so Richard also starts sleeping with May.

May gets pregnant! But Ben is sterile so he knows she cheated on him. Then in the most convoluted of schemes, Mary tells Richard that she is pregnant, and that it's his. Richard is in love with Mary and is okay with this. 9 months later Mary takes May's baby to Ben and pretends it's theirs and they live happily ever after or something.

Everyone hated all of this and it was never made officially canon. But if it was, then Peter Parker's biological mom would be Aunt May; his biological father would still be Richard Parker; Mary Parker not be blood related to him; Uncle Ben would still be his uncle.

I didn't mind that one since it flipped over the mythos behind why he's Batman and gives Bruce a personal conflict to resolve.

Most of the time yeah it seems like a typical soap opera twist where they're trying to cram in lore as much as possible.

I think the Amazing movies were more drawing from the Ultimate storyline where the Parker's were killed because of their research into the symbiote since they were scientists IIRC. Although the deleted scenes decided to tie that plot into them being responsible for the genetically altered spider.
