What are shows, movies, video games, etc. that you feel should have stopped after a certain season/installment, because it just felt like the series had run its natural course and didn't need to continue?

For me, Ratchet and Clank. A Crack in Time would have been a great note to end the series on, and for a while, it seemed like that was the plan. But then All 4 One happened...and then Full-Frontal Assault...and then Into the Nexus...and then Before the Nexus...etc.

Dragon Ball. It really had nowhere to go after Frieza. Goku had already defeated multiple martial arts masters, the world's most powerful army, received training from God himself, finally learned about his species, battled aliens, and thwarted the most powerful being in the known universe after becoming a literal living legend. What next? More Red Ribbon Army, but the robots are somehow stronger than Frieza? Multiple forms of super saiyan and everyone being capable of it, despite that it was supposed to be a once-in-a-millennium standalone thing? Magic monsters that turn people into chocolate? Come on, bro. Shit's so forced.

naruto, they actually finished it off in a somewhat satisfactory way... then they start up a spinoff series 15 years later.

halo. 1-3 were great, and the ending was solid if open ended. they could have stopped there, but then they got my hopes up with 4 and then killed my interest with 5.

DBZ post Frieza was the fault of Toei demanding more. Toriyama I think fully intended to end it on the final battle with Frieza. Everything after that including Super I think, is all stuff being ripped out of Toriyamas brain by force

Unpopular opinion, but I think Lost should have ended when the nuke went off in the past. Just leave it all wrapped up there as a causal paradox.

don't get me wrong, i absolutely love the ori seasons. but they definitely felt a little bit tacked on. "we finished the story we planned to tell, but they're throwing enough money at us to keep going, so... let's go figure something out"

Scrubs should have ended at season 4.

So should Peep Show.

The Inbetweeners shouldn't have had a third season.

Supernatural should have ended at season 5.

That last arc was just so horrible.When I rewatch I stop before that one. Hell the twist in the Chapter Black arc is horrible too.

Better than Airwolf, at least.

This one would probably be an unpopular opinion but The Sopranos. The first 4 seasons were giants. And were all filmed in consecutive years. Both seasons 5 and 6 were fairly bloated in terms of content and were filmed years later. Really killed the earlier momentum and just seemed different.

Thunder cats after that epic battle with Mummra getting more powerful, but having the power revoked for taking too long. After this they retconned Thundera being destroyed, and brought in some new lame cats. The sword of omens began to do everything for Liono at that point.

i started watching it like 2 months ago and i'm near the end of S5 and still find it thoroughly entertaining. but i have been wondering how in the heck it can go on for eleven seasons

Season six would have been a solid end

season seven (iirc) was okay, and after that the show just takes a nose dive. Around that point they start treating the show a lot more like a sitcom with plot points that never return, no real stakes to anything, and no clear overarching narrative

Chuck is one of those shows that was on the verge of being canceled several times. In season 4 (I think) there was a possible finale where his sister gave birth & he finally proposed to Sarah & it was a great scene-- wish it would have ended there. The stuff after that was okay, but the actual ending sucked.

I just came in to say this. Season 8 should have been the end & I dont necessarily mind the last two seasons, but they should have been shorter. Twenty episodes each was a bit much for those.

Buffy. While I do love season 6 (and once more with feeling is my favorite episode of the whole show), the ending of season 5 was basically perfect as a series finale.

I thought cell was where it all got ridiculous

Goku defeated the greatest threat in the universe by unlocking the mythical SSJ... A couple years later some robots in a cave are infinitely stronger

honestly i think the season 7 end was the right place to call it. jump straight into atlantis from there, and save the moebius story for the first movie.

I love the series, and I love the post-trilogy games, but Ace Attorney comes to mind. Finishing off with AA3 would have been perfect.

The series is still great, though.
