Depends on the circle.

Among Jewish / Christian communities or in boomer circles, the old rule still applies. Pretty much everywhere else, criticizing Israel is fine (but there's a difference between criticizing Israel and criticizing Israelis, which many people knowingly fall on the wrong side of then try to use "why can't I criticize Israel" as a defence of).

Idk about stopping funding period. Id prefer to have a ballsy president who pressures Israel with said funding instead. Seems like itd be much more effective towards a country surrounded by enemies imo

So yeah, Hamas is bad, I don't think anyone here really disputes that.

Suppose you are Palestinian though. Israelis have turned your home into an open air prison, cut off your electricity and water. Cut off your access to medical care and stopped foreign aid from reaching your family. Then they come to evict people violently so you protest, they teargas you, you seek refuge in a Mosque which they also teargas. Then Hamas fires rockets that hurt and kill people. Then the Israelis attack the open air prison you live in. They bomb your apartment building because Hamas MIGHT be operating out of it in some capacity. Part or possibly all of your family die, your friends and neighbors die. Regardless of your opinion on Hamas or it's political stances (abhorrent as they are) they are the ones fighting the IDF, you want to defend what's left of your home and it's people, so you go find some militants and start fighting.

It's never quite as simple as anyone would have you believe. If people are killing my friends, family, and neighbors I'm going to fight them regardless of who it is I'm fighting alongside.

Theres absolutely no reason to be enemies with these people. Most of the reason that people even say that is because theyre Israels enemies and the media pushes it.

The entire reason we give aid to Israel is because their neighbors used to routinely declare war against them. It's a deterrent.

I didnt mean enemies Id the United States, I meant enemies of Israel. And no, its not really propaganda. Iran in particular sees Israel as a hostile force (whether or not you consider this valid doesnt matter)

There are positives and negatives to be found in all governments/terrorist organizations.

A lot of people, especially on here or on twitter or reddit, really do believe the situation is not complicated.

And that's the thing. People like this don't just criticize Israel. People like this believe that Israel is an illegal state to begin with, and the utter vitriol you see from them is a direct result of this.

Most Palestinians do not live in Gaza which is the area Hamas controls. There seems to be an effort by the media to make people think Palestinians are represented by Hamas. Someone will point out they got the majority of seats in a parlimentary election (though not the majority of votes), ignoring they also lost a presidential election and when opposing popularly supported reforms Hamas just declared a war on the Palestinian Authority and took over Gaza by force. Don't fall for this Palestinians are Hamas bullshit.
