Square is so reliant on FF7 at this point I'm not sure why they simply dont just reboot the fanchise with it at its center.

It took them a while but it seems they've finally accepted the series prior format just didnt work. Investing mountains of time, manpower and resources On what was essentially one off games with zero character, lore and even art style feels was a mistake.

Most people in this topic fail to see how big FFXIV actually is that they keep harping on about FF7 remake for some reason. Even though both games have hit it huge.

Not to mention Nier, Dragon Quest, and soon FFXVI. Hell, this topic is pretty much wrong.

I don't think anyone is saying that they only have duds. But even there look at Nier. Atfer Nier Automata what do they do? A remaster of the first which makes sense I guess. But a mobile follow up? Then putting Platinum on some crappy dungeon crawler that doesn't look like they lean on a single strength from their last success?

They absolutely bungled the announcement of their Final Fantasy news this week.

At times it feels like games succeed in despite of Square-Enix instead of because. Who else can somehow fuck up having the exclusive rights to The Avengers?

Also people have to remember that Square-Enix will always cater to Japanese audiences first.

All these mobile games? They will be happy if they do OK here but it is for Japan.

DQ might as well not exist for me. Other than the basics, DQ is arguably the laziest series they produce. I enjoy the story, don't get me wrong, but my god they need to freshen up the series. Most of the audio and visuals are just copy paste from the previous game in the series.
