Like Danganronpa, I give it a lot of credit for the concept because it's really cool. Also like Danganronpa, it has a lot of characters I don't really like, except Life is Strange has even more of them, and that matters a lot to me.

Tough one for me, could be anywhere between a 6-8 depending on my mood :/ I dislike Chloe and she's probs the most important character storywise.

Gonna go for an 8 anyway.

I love the relationship between Max and Chloe. They get emotional together, joke with each other, have intense disagreements, it genuinely feels like a real friendship, I know because I've had ones just like it. The use of time travel is ingenious and devastatingly effective, putting a dream power into Max's hands, and subsequently yours, and successfully pulling off what having such a power really means from the minute bad decisions we all wish we could do over again to world-shattering, cataclysmic events that shake the very boundaries of reality. Aaaaand, this is all presented with some of the cheesiest ham-fisted dialogue of all time, cliche and worn out school & student tropes, little attention to side characters, and a primary villain ill-befitting of such an otherwise epic storyline with minuscule presence in most beats of the story. When LiS hits hard, it REALLY hits, but often times I feel Max & Chloe are left flailing for something meaningful to do between these moments, no doubt a bad side effect of its episodic method to storytelling.

The game does have some fun moments and good ideas, but it never really connected with me emotionally on a deep level, maybe because like others have said neither main character is particularly likable, I feel like the time travel mechanics often work in a contrived way that makes it feel like the plot moves due to the whims of the script rather than the actions of the characters, and I think the whole storyline about the serial killer ends up harming the story and should just not have been included to allow the game to focus on the more important points about the emotional lives of normal people. Finally, some of the heavier subject matter the game deals with, like Kate's situation, isn't really handled with enough depth or sensitivity to deliver on the storytelling potential it has.

The character interaction in this game is just so good and the overarching plot is mysterious and makes you want to push further. Episode 4 was just insane.

This game atmoshpere is amazing. It has some powerful moments, like Chloe asking you to kill her in the alternate timeline. Or like figuring out Rachel is dead, or that the teacher was the villain.
The relationship between Max and Chloe also feels very authentic. Saving Kate from suicide was emotional too

But
I don't like any of the characters. Not a single one. Every character has something annoying about them. Chloe is too much of a stupid rebel to be likeable. And Max is just...I dunno, boring?

Pretty much a great story ruined by bad characters

5/10, I really didn't connect to it much. And it suffers from that same thing most episodic games do where it's pretty inconsistent and not super cohesive as a whole, for instance the end of ep 2 big twist and how it's over within half an hour of ep 3. The dialogue doesn't feel like authentic teenage speech, and I didn't like the last episode at all. I'm clearly an outlier though!

Initially it's promising and just has some storytelling issues and an odd pace. The relation between Max and Chloe isn't very good imo and neither is a very good character. The overall story is exciting though, but fails to deliver in the end with Episode 2 easily being the best one. Things like Kate's plot has promise, but when you have to kill pace to find all the details to make it as emotional as it can be, it's not too good. The concept is great and many aspects are great, but choices matter too little in a telling that could be better and the final chapter drops the ball.

There are some dumb moments and some filler, and probably could have made much better use of the time rewind mechanic instead of inventing new variations on how it could be used later, but overall Life is Strange is extremely impactful. Before the Storm would fare even better considering it cuts the fluff, and decides not to filter a story generally about Chloe through someone else.
