I bought the original Gloomhaven and barely played but I'm a fucking moron so I bought this followup.

But honestly I got it because it fixes most of the issues I had with the original. It's got a low price tag, all the maps are printed right there in the book so you just open it up and start playing, it's got scaled down rules so it's not as complicated, and it's got a better tutorial so it eases you into the rules.

I have both and love both. Quick note, the rules are almost identical, jaws of the lion just has less content and is generally more straightforward, but imo rules were never the problem with gloomhaven it was just the setup

Yeah that setup was brutal. It was the main reason I didn't feel like continuing to play. When I saw the maps in the book for this new release, I was all in.

Played the first 3 scenarios, im already liking it MUCH better. The setup is glorious. You just open the book and the map is made. I was already burnt out by this time in the original because I just hated all the map tiles that much, and here I'm excited to play more. The slow inclusion of more and more rules helps too.
