Discussion on the "power" balance between different demographics is a perfectly valid area of study. The problem seems to come from when the fringe people try to turn particular demographics into tangible enemies, which is where a lot of the laughable nonsense comes from. The people and articles using the regular loaded terminology near always seem to be completely disingenuous.

Often, yes. There's a lot of privilege, and a lot of bad behaviour.

But also often no. So much of it is done for sport and much of it likes to dismiss that white men could possibly have any problems.

You can phrase it in flowery or unpleasant ways but the key point is that there is great injustice in the US, today and historically . And most of the people denying that are wealthy white guys

I feel certain people go too far with it and make it out like all white people are a bunch of inherently evil and bigoted assholes who've been pampered all their lives. There's also the various double standards that are just shitty. It's not really the privileged argument itself, but how they go about it.

Nothing is ever gained by painting an entire people group the same way and going at straight, white men as a whole with the intent to attack or tear down is almost never constructive.

A straight, white man has as much control over his characteristics as any person, but they are afforded many societal privileges that others don't have and one of those privileges is that they generally don't have to be confronted with their privilege or acknowledge them.

That represents an opportunity for dialog and education. Not an opportunity for attack. Criticizing a straight white man for being privileged is like criticizing water for being wet. The straight white man can't control it. But with dialog they can at least acknowledge it.

Now the people who are stubbornly "white privilege doesn't exist" despite having had the concept explained to them. Criticize away. They had their shot and blew it.

This should not be socially acceptable until every race is allowed to be criticized. Right now, only white men are allowed to be criticized, which isn't fair. No race or all races should be allowed to be stereotyped and criticized. None sounds good, so then don't do it to white men either.

Depends if you're criticizing all of them or not. It's not racist to talk about white privilege or the powerful white people who have held everyone else down throughout American and European history. Racism has literally shaped the entire world as we know it.

But that's "Critical Race Theory" and hating all white people or some shit. Because we need to ignore reality just becuase some annoying SJWs might not apply nuance.

You really hate to see an attitude like this. Theres no reason why you shouldnt have a voice in matters that concern you. Its all well and good to consider the perspectives of others, and they very well may be right, but youre no less capable of coming to the correct decision about human affairs on the basis that youre a straight white male.

Now, that all sounds perfectly reasonable, but it completely ignores the fact that choosing to bow to the wisdom of others is a perfectly valid use of my voice in this matter.

Discrimination based on race, sex, gender, and sexuality is something that I and most straight white men have never meaningfully experienced, therefore we really have to listen to the people who have experienced it for their entire lives and base our behaviour on that.

I think it's fine to point out white privilege/patriarchy and criticize white men who are bigoted.

I don't think it's justified to target white men with no power who aren't attacking anyone. Also the way some liberals assume anyone they're arguing with on the internet is a white man is fucking annoying.
