Other than not being at the point of the relationship, why not?

Yes we have a joint account. Were a little odd in that we had it one year into dating but it was because I moved to the states and didnt have a social security yet so he just added me to his account. Then we just kept it that way even though we didnt get married for another couple of years.

We got a joint chequing account when we moved in together for shared expenses and things, but retained our separate chequing accounts because it seemed prudent at the time. Many years later at this point it'd be a hassle to change it and there's not really a benefit to it because of various direct deposit and automatic payment things already tied to them.

We have a joint savings account, where most of our liquid cash sits. We have separate RRSP, Tax-Free Savings and investment accounts, because they all existed before got together and it's not at all feasible to share those kinds of things.

We have a main joint account, but then I have my own account so I can buy her gifts without her knowing, and can sub to certain sites without getting in trouble.

If I ever get married I will make it a point to only use a joint account to pay bills and other expenses. Outside of that? We have our own accounts. You do what you want with your money. You want to splurge on a bunch of shoes? As long as you keep putting the required amount of money in the joint account, then sure. I want to build a $3000 gaming PC? As long as I put the required money in tc r joint account, then sure.

Its more about personal freedom.

No we don't. That way I don't need to be questioned about buying a $20 Steam game.
