How many years would you be satisfied with?

Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Ellison is urging again to the judge to NOT GO HEAVY on the sentence for Derek Chauvin, the former police officer charged with the murder of George Floyd as the sentencing will be known this Friday.

He said he hopes the judge won't go light or heavy because it's not about "revenge" but justice for and acknowledgement of what chauvin did was wrong.

The 45 y/o is facing 40 years in the slammer after being convicted on all 3 counts but Ellison says although he is feeling relieved and gratitude on the verdict, he does not want to see Chauvin spend that many years in prison..

He said "I spent 16 years as a criminal defense lawyer. So, i will admit, i felt a little bad for the defendant. I think he deserved to be convicted. But he's a human being. I'm not in any way wavering from my responsibility. But i hope we never forget the people who are defendants in our criminal justice system, that they're human beings. They're people. I mean, George Floyd was a human being. And so i'm not going to ever forget that everybody in this process is a person"

Probably 5-10, but we're in America so it'll likely be 50 years or a life sentence, which is basically the same thing.

He cant be fairly tried.

For slowly suffocating a man to death while other people begged him to stop? Long enough that he'll never be able to do something like that to someone again.

I think he should be behind bars for decades at least, even if you give him the benefit of the doubt and think maybe it was an accident there is just no excusing the total disregard he had for another mans life

How do you mean? A properly trained and experienced judge is always a possibility.

You know who should have been fairly tried? George Floyd. Instead he got murdered by a murderer.

Darn, if only we didn't have so much evidence and we could have a proper "cop's word against a dead man's word" trial as god intended.

That's not really what it would be since there is actually video and bodycam footage of pretty much the entire incident from start to finish

we dont even know the sentence yet so theres no reason to assume what will motivate the sentencing

there are obviously exceptions, but for the most part judges are pretty reasonable people that do their best to view all the aspects of a situation

Which is exactly the issue. This widely distributed and easily interpreted footage has prevented the possibility of a fair trial, where things would be decided through rhetoric and conviction, rather than a misleading and overly detailed documentation of the event.
