What's the only true way?

For obvious reasons I won't go into, 06/2021/23 is the only true way to format the date.

YYYY/M/D when talking to a DB, eg: 2021/6/23

MMM-D-YYYY or MMM-DD-YYYY for users, eg: Jun-23-2021

unless you have more space then possibly DDD, MMMM D, YYYY, eg: Wed, June 23, 2021

and if you have a lot of space then DDDD, MMMM D, YYYY, eg: Wednesday, June 23, 2021

M/D/Y is the most logical, but M/D/Y vs D/M/Y is largely regional. Then Y/M/D makes sense for sorting documents (or rather YY/MM/DD, since you don't need the full YYYY).

If someone asked me the date and year, I would say "June 23rd, 2021". So MM/DD/YY makes the most sense.

But if you are from a region where you would say something like "The 23rd of June, 2021", then DD/MM/YY makes sense. But (at least in English) it also seems to be an overly formal way of saying the date (why don't you just throw Anno Domini on the end there, nerd?), so I'm not really a fan.

I see it as being the same thing as telling someone the time. Expressions like "It's half-past one" or "It's a quarter to three" are kind of archaic and obsolete at this point (mainly because of the shift away from analog to digital) - most people would just say "It's 1:30" or "It's 2:45" instead. Simplicity and clarity seems to be the better alternative when conveying important information.

I prefer DD/MM/YYYY since its easiest to just go from smallest to largest.

I liked how the military did it with DDMMMYY (23JUN21) since it got rid of all confusion.

The ISO standard is YYYY-MM-DD and is preferred for sorting reasons.

Time is a social construct
I agree, but let's argue about definitions

A social construct is something that exists not in objective reality, but as a result of human interaction. It exists because humans agree that it exists.

I don't get why we call it a social construct. I'd call it more of something of a functional construct. Now we have agreed on the standards of such, there's 24 hours in a day, 365 days a year, etc.

An example of a social construct is money or the concept of currency, as people in society have agreed to give it importance/value. ... Strong social constructs rely on the human perspective and knowledge that does not just exist, but is rather constructed by society.

The passage of "time"... okay, well, I guess we constructed the standard ... seconds, minutes, hours. but the concept and relativity to revolving around the sun is something that is still intrinsic in nature

We just interpret it

So... what do y'all think?

Also, seconds feel too fast these days, I'm going to go invent a slower timescale

DD/MM/YYYY is the most logical in my language as we always pronounce the day first.
