Can someone enlighten me as to why the replies are the way that they are? They seem to acknowledge that this is satire but are taking it personally?

It was poorly timed because IGN staff had just been in conflict with their employer that week over the pro-Palestine article they published (which the higher-ups removed), so it was a piling on when they already were having a rough time

Odds are it was a pre-scheduled post before that incident had actually happened (Hard Drive will repost older articles on twitter sometimes for no real reason), but just unfortunate timing.

It's got a bunch of modes and 6 courses.

Reviews creeped up to 75 which is about where I had my maginot line. Plus the main reason I was interested was to play with my son and it sounds like the issues are with single player mostly.

Got my first hole in one in a speed battle with friends and it tipped the scales into a victory for me. Felt great.

I beat Adventure Mode. It's not great.

And neither is just about everything else in this game. I'm navigating menus to see what else there is to do if you're not playing multiplayer and... there's nothing.

If you play as a character a dozen times or so, you can unlock their superstar version, I guess. But you're gonna be playing a lot of solo rounds to make that happen. Cuz if you decide you want to play a CPU to spice it up, you can't even pick a difficulty setting for them.

What the fuck is with Mario sports games and them releasing with jack shit to do?! It's Tennis Aces all over again, but this time even worse!

At least that game had fun online tournaments to play. I just tried to play this game online, and there are a whopping two lobbies open. And that's with setting every option to "Any".

I love the way the game feels. It's way more technical than I had expected. I suggest when you all go through Adventure Mode, mess around with putting a bunch of points into Spin and messing with your trajectory during shots. It's a ton of fun.

I just wish I had any reason to play the game more.

Am I missing something or does the game not actually show the hole elevation in relation the ball other than a vague 'higher' or 'lower'?

The scan feature gives a +/- number for the elevation, only been playing Adventure Mode so far and you do have to purchase the scan feature at the shop for 500 coins

It sure doesn't! But you can buy a range finder that you can manually use during a game that does it for you in the most roundabout way possible.

When I was playing a match against Wario, he missed a 3 foot putt long, which turned into a 4 foot putt from the other side, which he then also missed long, putting him right back where he started, which he then missed again. I was laughing too hard to remember to take a video of it.

Adventure Mode beated... they really do wrap up that final zone quick lol (and geez why does it have to roll back your save to before the final stage... I don't get why they couldn't make a playable post-game state)

I agree with the "what now" feeling after the story, we'll see when I just simply try playing 18 hole score/time games, I don't really feel strongly about the courses themselves. The introduction of most of these courses through Speed Rush and Speed Rush-adjacent style games during the Adventure really just made me feel rushed along and not soaking up what I'm doing at all. I was interested in Speed Rush mode when it was announced but it feels too strongly focused on when I expected more of a fun side-component of it. Again, I'll have to see my feelings on the course as I actually take my time playing them more freely now outside the adventure.

Sucks though the rest of the contest just feels like... welp go play some matches now with no real structure outside the adventure. Really hope to get info on some DLC content soon since this game definitely needs it.

Finished Adventure Mode myself. Yeah pretty short, but I enjoyed it for what it was. The only real story is like right at the beginning and right at the end. Everything else inbetween is just playing tournaments and learning the game modes.

I guess we should try to do a B8 online thing at some point, but other than that it's wait ting to see what else gets patched into the game later on.

I wonder if theyre going to treat this like the tennis game and release a character every month. They have a lot of characters in the game already that could reasonably become playable. Birdo and Hammer Bro. should definitely happen too.

This is a really weird case to me, where I really don't care if they add anyone to the game, because they didn't give any of the characters any, well....... character at all. 10 out of 17 characters currently in the game all have one of the two exact same special shots. Those 10 characters include Donkey Kong, Mario, and Bowser. How the fuck can you not think up a unique shot for those three icons?! It's unreal how much wasted potential this game has.

In defense of the special shots, there's only so much you can do in golf, and if they tried to get too creative and made literally 17+ unique shots, you're going to be very hard pressed to do so without introducing obvious imbalance. They likely wanted to avoid that.

Then make some shots better, but make their stats worse. They did that with Luigi and Mario. I haven't unlocked their superstar clubs, so I can't attest to the point that they stay imbalanced later, but Luigi has a much better special shot than Mario, and their only stat difference in the beginning is that Mario can hit the ball 9 yards further.

If you do that you create imbalance for anybody that plays with special shots turned off, though.

There's no real win-win, here.
