Speed Golf seems to be the star of the show as you and your friends or AI run to where you hit the ball and try to knock eachother out

The basic 18 holes modes are there with 6 total courses. The Adventure Mode is noted for being on the short side and not really a standout feature.

Speed Golf is a fun addition, but a poor adventure mode, a slight selection of courses and low replayability results in Mario Golf: Super Rush being an underwhelming entry into the series.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is the plumber's best sports outing in a good long time, featuring smartly-revamped core mechanics, beautiful, varied courses, clever new modes, and a single-player Adventure full of fun twists. The game may be a bit light on content (something Nintendo is promising to address with free updates), but aside from that, Mario's form is close to flawless this time around.

Mario Golf: Super Rush is a game that in many respects hits its marks. Golf Adventure has plenty of charm and offers a fun way to learn various mechanics and unlock courses. Away from that solo endeavour there are decent options and customisation for multiplayer games, local or online, button controls or motion-based swinging. It's not a premium effort, however, with a nagging feeling of corners cut and at times an absence of creativity. However, many players should get a good amount of fun out of this one, both solo and with friends. This ain't the Masters, but for Mario Golf fans it is a solid par.

For the first home console game in the series in nearly two decades, Mario Golf: Super Rush is a bit underwhelming, at least in terms of what it has to offer. Speed Golf and Battle Golf are both great ideas, but they aren't fleshed out enough to feel like main modes. Golf Adventure is a great way to add depth to what basically amounts to an extended tutorial, but it too suffers from pacing problems. Thankfully, the bulk of the game-the actual golfing-feels better than ever by being both technically challenging and more accessible.

With its frantic new modes and spot-on gameplay, playing Mario Golf: Super Rush is the most amount of fun I've had with a sports game in a very long time. Throw in that iconic Nintendo charm and comprehensive multiplayer and you're left with a hole-in-one.

These reviews are looking real similar to the ones that came out for Tennis Aces. I'll still buy it cuz I'm a schmuck, but I can already see myself dropping this game in a matter of weeks.

Kinda on the fence, and that response to the adventure mode is pushing me hard towards the no side. Speed Golf sounds fun enough but I want a robust regular golf experience too and

I'm not really sure why anyone expected a robust single player adventure mode in this. We've all gotten burned enough by that over the past 20 years that I feel like expectations should have been tempered.

I didn't really expect it but there's a limit to how excited I will get for a Mario Sports without it (and IIRC having one at all is a step up so I did get my hopes up a bit it'd be a good one)

Apparently IGN and GameSpot's reviews both mentioned the 3 click system still being in the game when it's not, but it LOOKS like it is, making people think they didn't actually play the game for their reviews. Those sections have since been removed from the reviews (IGN did, anyway, not sure about GameSpot).

It feels like you should know how the swing mechanic works if you played the game for literally even just one swing, but hey

I'd say whatever, but if you just watch video of the game it looks like the three click is still in, so they pretty clearly based a review off that.

IIRC it was GameSpot that had a review of Radiant Dawn where they thought that it was a game over if any unit died for the entire game because they never got past the Dawn Brigade section. Although, it does take a few hours to get through the section so it's not quite the same as Mario Golf where the reviewer missing something they should have known if they played the game at all.

I am also curious what happened here. Mario Golf really doesn't seem like the type of game where reviewers would need to cut corners.

Edit: Actually, GameSpot was the one complaining about Mii support so maybe it was someone else.

My golden standard for Bad Video Game Review is joystiq's Nier 1 review, where the guy fished at the wrong spot for hours (despite there being a minimap marker of where to go) and then quit the game, then wrote a long article about the game being ruined by it.

There's an irrelevant website that gave Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky a bad score when it's clear the reviewer never touched the game. The reviewer thinks you can only move in the game by using the touch pad and thinks that the Wonder Mail system is a shopping center called Wonder Mall.

I think that would still work out to two reviewers independently deciding not to play even a few minutes of Mario Golf. Like say reviewer A is stealing from reviewer B. If A played the game but couldn't be bothered to write a real review they probably still would have noticed the error in review B when copying it.
