Yeah, it's weird af because it's not even debating whether it's correct or not. It's coming at it for being taught at all.

Like learning what it is isn't harmful. You can teach someone what the nazis were without them becoming nazis. You can treat someone what philanthropy is without them becoming a good person.

It's a wedge issue that activates the most powerful forces in American politics: anti-elitism, anti-communism, anti-intellectualism, ignorance, white victimhood, conspiracism, jingoism, parental panic, and racism. AND fighting about it doesn't require conservatives to actually help anyone or solve any problems.

Its mere mention triggers people who think in a certain way and triggers them more the less they know about CRT. And the people peddling the CRT panic can define what it is a way that's useful to them, with no outside interference.

It's a potent political weapon in the short term, that's why you're suddenly hearing so much about it. Same as with cancel culture.

CRT is controlled opposition. It's intentionally vague so that people can spend thousands of hours arguing over it so that nothing can get done

It's a method of analysis, an analytical tool, or a lens for analyzing society, history, and laws. It's an approach, not a specific set of beliefs. It analyzes why racism and racial disparities persist to the present day through a structural and historical focus, rather than a focus on individuals.

It is absolutely not being taught to K-12 kids, and someone saying that is a surefire way to tell they don't know what it is and are just passing along misinformation that they heard from someone else.

I went to a liberal law school, and took every civil rights related course they offered, and am now a civil rights lawyer and I was never once taught anything that had to do with CRT. That should let you know how unlikely it is that anyone you know has been taught it or even has the slightest idea of what it is.

If it was only that, I think everyone would be agree with CRT, because your statement is pretty obviously true. People have used CRT in the name of a lot of insane stuff, though, which is what leads to the criticism you see of it coming from the right. As a liberal myself, im kinda annoyed by the flippant and dismissive responses of liberals when presented with CRT criticism from right leaning types.

I wouldn't call any of those ideas "insane." The 5th tenet may be debatable but that doesn't mean it's totally without merit from what I've read on it.

If that's the case, what are the options for fixing it? If you don't fix it, blacks will always be at the bottom. Whites won't give it up, and it's built into society. What are the options?

Legalize drugs. Look into meaningful ways to elevate the poor out being poor, rather than trapping them there.

Prohibition and poverty are the root causes of damn near all of societies ills, and two form a diabolical feedback loop. Discrimination is just another entry-point into the loop.

Usually because the criticism of CRT doesn't apply to CRT in the first place, so of course it's going to be dismissed because it's built on a false premise.

Propping up a false representation and then immediately denouncing it is referred to as Strawmanning. It's a pretty common deflection technique also used to denounce things like feminism or the concept of privilege. At some point, it's just willful ignorance. Can one deliberately misconstrue CRT and use this to push anti-CRT sentiment? Absolutely. Is this what Fox News et al are doing? Also yes.

Fox News has articles that could answer that question. And if your first reaction to me saying that is rolling your eyes, it shouldn't be. The question is basically, what is the right complaining about, the answer is to listen to what they're saying. That's what the discussion is about. Some ideas have already been put forward by more knowledgeable people than me. But just because the answers aren't immediate that doesn't mean the questions are "insane," which is what we were actually discussing initially. We still need to examine it to figure things out, not dismiss them out of hand.

Ok done. The entire rest of everyday American society is racist. Blacks still get harsher sentences for other crimes, and they're still below whites in wealth. The system still allows whites to make new laws or use existing laws to disproportionately affect blacks, which they will, because they won't give it up, even though they could.

I feel like it's not juat semantics though? If my viewpoint is what you want, its that I agree with the underlying fundamental concept of what CRT is, and it's a good thing, but many hateful and racist people have claimed to be CRT proponents and that gets things all mixed up. I dont think that's a radical thing to say at all.
