These games were one of the reasons I learned Japanese. Glad to see they finally get English releases though. Excited for Kuro this year. Looks like English Kuro won't be coming for another several years though.

2023 for Hajimari is brutal if the simultaneous release leak is true. Shit, the second Calvard game might already be released/scheduled to release in Japan by then. A 3 year gap is going in the wrong direction

Happy for people that are going to be able to experience Crossbell for the first time, but this was my biggest worry with them being localized

Still feeling the effects of XSEEDs fuck up with Sky SC. Those five years put the western releases so far behind.

Problem is that Hajimari requires Crossbell knowledge, its basically the 3rd Crossbell game. Erebonia appears but its almost entirely set in Crossbell, so to put it out before Zero and Ao would be bad.

The worst part is that Hajimari (A ps4 game) will be releasing in what looks like midway through PS5s life span. So rough.

Im conflicted, though it doesnt impact me at all since, partially thanks to Falcom, I can read Japanese.

Hopefully they bring the PS4 versions over I've only seen Epic bullshit

Even worse: Kuro no Kiseki (and its sequel) are gonna be released even later into the PS5s lifespan when they're eventually localized

This is initially why Xseed skipped Crossbell. They had to start Coldtsteel ASAP to make the series popular in the west. They didnt want to be releasing PSP games in 2016 so they shifted to cold steel. And it was a good decision at the time, they almost caught up.

But of course, that eventually comes back to bite us in the ass.

Looks like I made the right decision just sticking to PC lol

I played Sky and Crossbell on PC initially, then the Vita evolution versions (prefer evolution). CS1/CS2 on PC. Then switched to PS4 for CS3/CS4 and Hajimari because they come out so much faster on PS4 than PC.

Well the problem being that Kuro is set to be a new entry point to the series, to gain new fans, but its going to be coming out halfway into the new console generation while being made for the old console generation.

How many new fans are they going to get releasing an already aged game like that? Enfranchised players like us will buy it, but the average person definitely won't.

Its the same reason Sky FC sold so poorly. It was a PSP game released in NA in 2011. Who still bought PSP games in 2011? Whose going to be buying PS4 games in 2024-5?

See, this wasn't so fucking difficult. More developers and publishers need to work with fan translators like this to reduce the strain in localising games in the west, especially with older titles.

Basically theyre using the Geofront fan translations as a base and with no English audio. As great as it is that theyre localizing them, some one like me for instance who just finished the Geofront translations doesnt need to get these games whenever they come out

Whats the play order for these games? I played Trails of Cold Steel I and picked up the others but my understanding is Trails in the Sky is better to play before going into the next Cold Steel games

Trails in the Sky trilogy -> Crossbell duology -> Cold Steel -> Reverie

I ended up doing the same thing btw. Highly recommend going back and playing the old games first before continuing CS.

I might play through Cold Steel again to get the platinum trophy. It's been years since I played Sky, and never played the 3rd. Maybe I'll do the journey once Crossbell comes out.

I played like halfway through Sky 3rd before skipping to Crossbell games. Now Im in the final chapter of CS4 and realizing theres a ton of references to the game I only got halfway through

The 3rd is also kinda rough and doesn't pick up until you're past the halfway point or so.

It's still a great game but probably the worst one in the series.

I really liked Kevin and Reis but it was just a straight dungeon crawler and Im not a big fan of those. Plus the story was kind of wack

This is the best gaming news Ive heard in a very long time. It was plain stupid of them to not do this sooner because theres obviously enough people who like the series in the west.

Four games in a span of two years. This stuff takes time.

They cannot release Hajimari before Ao and Zero. Its basically a directly sequel to those two games so it has to be last.

Games are coming out on three systems (Switch, PS4 and PC) and therefore a lot of testing and porting will need to be done for each of the games. Not to mention the Geofront scripts need to be gone over again to ensure that it matches up with Falcom's standards and to ensure language and personalities are consistent. Geofront took a lot of liberties with their localization where they dramatically changed tone or meaning, some of which Falcom/NISA will probably look at. Also both Zero and Ao are some of the longest scripts in gaming so even though the bulk of the translation has been done, another pass or two to ensure consistency takes a very long time.

As for Hajimari, they're very likely going to dub it which takes even more time. Unfortunately for a JRPG to sell well in the west, it needs to have an english dub.

I'm super excited for Kuro this year, and I'm sorry for anyone who will have to wait to play it, but its for good cause. You can't have Hajimari come out before the first two Crossbell games.
