Sharingan lets you remember handsigns you've seen as well as predict people's next move, witnessing a traumatic death bumps it up to its next form which gives you a couple more abilities unique to the person and you can get rid of your sight to have 1 "do-over".

Byakugan lets you see 360 degrees around you and lets you see everyone's chakra points.

Rinnegan is the annoying kid on the playground constantly adding new op abilities.

IDK I just see Sasuke do cool moves and make sudden 'aha!' moments like he had a trick up his sleeve.

Also if the eyes are that overpowered, how is Naruto even on the same level as Sasuke?

Being able to predict opponent's next move seems like a big boss ability or something.

Itachi is my favorite from the whole show.

Sharingan enhances visual perception essentially and grants photographic memory. Dependng on the level and form of sharingan it grants various abilities such as casting genjutsu using the light reflected off your eyes as the medium, perceiving microscopic objects, chakra and muscle movements, copying opponents movements/jutsu, and limited precognition or at least something that simulates it via perception of subtle cues normally impossible to perceive by a normal Ninja.

The advanced forms(covered later) grant more esoteric abilities which often are unique to an individual or family though some seem to be universally attainable. However these abilities are taxing and harmful to the eyes/chakra and sometimes the entire body. Eventually you go blind.

Any form of Sharingan is taxing on chakra reserves however and is limited by your skill. A non Uchiha who implants one is affected more by this and cannot manually deactivate their own sharingan. Thus to keep oneself alive you must cover your sharingan to keep it inactive lest it consume all your chakra.

An unimaginative, low skill person with poor reflexes, a weak body, and low chakra will basically just be wearing a nice set of contacts. You need imagination to make effective use of genjutsu, enough skill/ chakra to actually use copied jutsu and the stamina to maintain it long enough to matter.

It evolves through emotional trauma and stress which release a special chalra in the brain that develops your abilities further thr sharingan. Its also implied to generally make you syringer but I don't think it is explicitly stated. The basic form evolution is marked by can evolve to have more "tomoe" while especially potent trauma(Generally believed to involve killing ones own family though this isn't the only way)

The first Evolution is the Mangekyo. This one tends to grant each eye a separate ability though often its simply two parts of a same whole.

The second is obtained by taking the mangekyo from a family member. This seems to somehow increase the power of the implanted eyes while retaining any abilities you already possessed in your own sharingan. In addition they no longer go blind with repeated usage though the advanced abilities remain painful and taxing to perform.

The sharigan under rare circumstances can Evolve into the Rinnegan

Finally a set is more powerful then a single sharingan or sharingan from two separate people. Even when one is implanted in someone else the other in the set still maintains some sort of connection. This may rarely lead to seeing what the other sharingan sees ever over great distances.

One of the more common abilities of the mangekyo is Susanoo. Basically a humanoid chakra construct that provides powerful mid range offense and defense as well. The user can move freely within the construct and it can manifest in different froks depending on sharingan development and the user's desire thought it seems to have a set progression of forms rather then taking whatever shape the user desires. It's vaguely like a giant transparent stand from Jojo but less bizarre and more taxing to the user as well as having a lower then power ceiling then the straight up reality manipulating of some stands.

Outside the specific abilities this is most of it. Its pretty bullshit in Shippuden and somehow Rinnegan is more bullshit.

I don't think Kishimoto, the author, does either.

I remember when the Sharingan was first introduced. It was just means of analyzing chakra/jutsus so you could predict or copy your opponents. Then the Chunnin exams happened they had to hype up Neji, so now all of a sudden Byakugan was the original dojutsu and the Sharingan is just a mutation. The real shit is with the Hyuga clan

Then they gotta hype Itachi, so the Sharingan is now actually an evolution with further evolutions like the Mangekyo Sharingan.

Then in shippuden they hype up Pain with the Rinnegan which is the true dojutsu. Which we then come to find out that they were originally Madara's so now they're actually a Sharingan evolution, except they're not because now they're original dojutsu again since that's what the Sage of 6 paths had but his mom had the Byakugan so that's the real original dojutsu and it just keeps changing back and forth
