If you were him would you take the near million dollars to sell this house to the big time developers?

Orlando Capote is REFUSING to sell his small Coral Gables home that is currently wedged between 2 GIANT buildings that is in the middle of construction zone for the largest commercial development in Coral Gables history.

His small family home was the only holdout from the developers who paid out the rest of the homes that are already bulldozed over as his home is now swallowed up by the 600 million commercial development despite countless offers to buy him out of up to 900,000 smackers!!

It's a real life Pixar movie situation as in the film "Up" where the main character stands pat when the city around him explodes into skyscrapers

He declined 60 offers in the last 6 years from developers, real estate agents, or house flippers to purchase the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1300 square foot home.

But even almost a million wasn't enough for him to budge because the house is priceless to him

His father bought the home in 1989 after immigrating from Cuba and worked double to buy the home as he said it holds extra sentimental value to him since his death in 2005

He said "This house is like a hard drive. As i look around n dlive in it and move through it, i relive a lot of memories. That i could not find in another house"

He wanted to honour his mother and father's wishes who were insistent that he not sell their "family treasure"

Capote tells CBS "The house is my soul. So what good is it to sell your soul for all the money in the world"

He accused the city of multiple violations and says his home is being swallowed up by the mega development as some of the debris is already falling down on his property.

They denied the accusations but despite this he is not moving and says his parents memories keep him company and doesn't feel alone in this house

If you were him would you sell the house?

I wouldn't sell, purely because it'd be awesome to live between skyscrapers like that. That and they'll offer more eventually.

Honestly, I'm surprised some sleazy politician hasn't imminent domained it to sell to one of their cronies.

I'd probably take the money, but can totally understand their position. The fact this was even allowed to happen (surround a residential home with skyscrapers) seems suspect and I'm sure their claims of debris falling are true.
I hope they have children to pass the house onto that will continue the fight, otherwise this does seem pretty pointless in the long run...

He can sell it and get paid or they'll force him out and he'll get nothing. I'm sure he doesn't want a long drawn-out court battle.

$900,000 to sell was there offer?

I'd tell em to come back with no less than 2 million.
They want the space so bad they'll pay.

I'd sell but not for that amount. Those crooks can definitely make a better offer.

Zoning changes Nothing is guaranteed to stay zoned the same way forever.

And I should mention I live in CT, a state where politicians used imminent domain to take peoples' homes so they could give the land to a commercial developer... who proceeded to not build there anyway. Government sucks.

He should have someone come out to survey the property, find out if one of the surrounding buildings has encroached on his land. Could make a small fortune if they did.

Yeah, the last holdout often makes a killing.

That, or they make a pittance because the area is developed such that nobody has any interest in the house, so when they do eventually sell, the only potential buyer is whoever owns the surrounding developments. Developments like this have a tendency to drive competition out of the area, which tanks property values because the developer can then hold out for the cheapest sale price they can get. That's not to say people like this guy should settle for the first offer they get without trying to negotiate, but it generally isn't a good idea to hold out indefinitely in hopes that the developer gets desperate. Past a certain point, they're more likely to just push ahead and make his life as miserable as possible until he decides to move of his own accord, then offer him hardly anything because they know he won't be able to get anything more than that.
