Avatar was big because people hadn't worked out that 3D cinema is balls yet, so they went and saw it expecting space titanic instead of Dances with Giovani Ribissi. Now that they're blwoing millions on three sequels, it's gonna end up bombing big time.
No one actually really cares about it as a franchise. Kids aren't gonna wear that shit on a shirt or play with Avatar toys. It just seems like a severe over-estimation of the original film.

I saw it in theatres in 3-D and was mesmerized. Ive watched it a bunch of times at home, its like a comfort movie for me. Something about the world.

This. It was cool at the time because 3D was still hyped up as well the the CGI. 3D is dead and there is so much CGI in every blockbuster now nobody cares.
