Fucking this.

Why would someone want to move AWAY from civilization? That's like being in the USA and moving to the middle of fucking Wyoming where dial up internet is the norm and life is so boring blowing your fucking brains out or doing meth are regular vices for people between working dead end jobs.

No thank you.

There's a lot you can do in nature. I get it of it's not your lifestyle of choice. But you could still understand how it could be others. I think I'd do fine reverting back to pre-internet era after I got settled in and stopped thinking about my prior daily habits. I think I'd eventually thrive. But it's hard to put down when it's always there as an option. I'm definitely addicted to technology to some extent as of now. But it doesn't mean I always have to be.

True. But you could understand why these homes aren't selling. Giving up the awesome social life afforded in big cities and modern technology isn't something a vast majority of people would be keen to do. It's the same problem in the US where the fly over states are hemorrhaging people and the big cities are swelling up to the point no one can afford housing but people STILL prefer to live/move there.

Yeah. I mean, you got a point that they're in this predicament for a reason. If you could afford the upkeep and traveling, that would be a pretty cool vacation spot.

The amount I can just go over to my sisters and hang out with my family members without technology kind of makes me think Id be fine of I settled down a place like that with my own family. Aside from kids getting a glimpse of what life could be with advanced technology and maybe not liking me for choosing a different lifestyle lol. It would be pretty hard to convince them it's fine living without all those luxuries.

Rural area basically means
No job prospects
No advancement whatsoever
No usual accommodations a home normally has
No real society and perks

You'd basically only go there if you wanted to live like the Amish or even further back and like those Bears Gris type of survivalist

Those places are usually so far out that it takes hours to get to civilization for basic needs and go back imagine that kinda commute for a job.

Actually they outright offered free homes in one japanese town I remember. A few years back. The town was dying and they were willing to just give abandoned houses to anyone who was willing to live there.

This topic gets posted constantly and I live in rural Japan and we don't have those. In fact the cheapest you will fine a house is around $60,000 and that's not a house you want to live in if you can help it (old, small, possible leaky roof, etc.). These houses are in literally the middle of nowhere. No jobs, no stores, nothing. You can't just move there and live a normal life.

Lol, absolutely not true. It's easier to buy property as a foreigner than to rent it. As long as the realtors get the money they don't care where you're from.

Japan really should have spent alot more time investing in their rural areas rather urban. Hell do suburbs even exist in Japan? I dont hear about them at all.

Even in our fly over stats most locals have general conveniences and internet within a reasonable distance. And even then a town and city arent oftentimes isnt very far.

Yes suburbs exist in Japan. It's one of the most densely populated areas in the world. And despite living in rural Japan I have better internet than I ever had in Seattle. Again these houses aren't in rural Japan, they're literally in the middle of nowhere.

Theres a big difference between living in a rural area because you can afford to live in a gated community for rich people that moved to the south for the scenery and living in a dead end town where the only employment opportunities are retail, bars and auto shops

in my experience the latter is way more common among people than the former

How is it there is so much unused land when the cities are so crowded? The picture makes it look like usable land. Why hasn't a corporation moved in and gobbled it up to put in Walmarts or something?

That's not going to happen. Weebs would keel over without their electronics or access to fast food. There's no way they'd be able to live in a no wifi access farmland.

Because no one lives there. Why don't they gobble up unused land in literally every other country that exists? If you live in America you can easily drive for hours and see unused land. People congregate in population centers all over the world. That's just how it is. And not all land in Japan is arable. If this was good farmland it would be used.

I checked out Wakayama prefecture near Osaka on Google maps. It doesn't look bad at all, tbh. It's still Japan, remember? The quality of life is probably very high.

I'm sure you could find something fulfilling to do, given enough people moved in at a reasonable pace.
