Yeah it's definitely a bit of a shocker first time through. It is a smaller project, so I think it's unfair to compare it to a more realized work of similar themes. I'm of course talking about a VN called Totono. If you google it, you'll get directed to the actual full title. Even knowing that game involves meta elements, you'll get a ton of surprise and intrigue from it. It uses the meta narrative as a part of the drama and the emotions, rather than it being a gimmick.

My main complaint for DDLC is that it doesn't expand on every character enough, even though there are plenty of hints thrown here and there. I don't blame the game or the dev though because that's probably more of an issue with scale and the size of the team. Totono clearly had the level of budget and developmental time to realize its full vision, which is why it's so good.

But yeah I loved the DDLC experience. Def recommend you play Totono some time later. Be warned though for it does have some sexual content, but it's totally justified in a way
