Um, what business does China have in Afghanistan?

I mean, is there even a token justification given to this or is the Chinese government just openly saying that the land is theirs for conquest?

Nice, I wish everyone involved in this infrastructure project well. It is great to see a major economic power using their strength to build and develop rather than to wreak havoc and destruction.

It's a scam. Google "debt trap diplomacy" and what people from Sri Lanka to Africa have to say about it. The South China Morning post would of course have no bad thing to say about it.

Politics in Africa are complicated to say the least. Eritrea is a one party state but there are still local elections. They are considered free and fair. Eritrea is by definition an emerging democracy. And capitalist.

Google a bunch of MSM article repeating each other? LOL

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debt-trap_diplomacy

The term "debt-trap diplomacy" was coined by Brahma Chellaney to allege China's predatory lending practices in which poor countries would be overwhelmed with unsustainable loans and would be forced to cede control of strategic assets to China. The term was first used in 2017; within 12 months it had quickly spread through the media, intelligence circles, and Western governments. It has since expanded to include other parts of the world and was further defined and expanded upon in the context of Chinese geostrategic interests in a 2018 Harvard University report.

Princeton University published an article disputing the term and quoted a March 2018 report released by the Center for Global Development, that contradicts the theory as the paper concludes that between 2001 and 2017, China had restructured or waived loans for 51 debtor nations, the majority of BRI participants, without seizing state assets.

China cannot say the same.

Get your boys at HQ to get you better research.

LMAO, from your very own article:

There have not been national elections in Eritrea since independence in 1993

Speaking of local elections, you do know that China has them too right? So drop your racist personal attacks against me.

PRC is not the USA. Road & Belt is a win-win, China invests massively in Afghanistan's infrastructure (roads, hospitals, etc.) which benefits both countries. Unlike with the USA, there won't be a single Chinese soldier in Afghanistan.

Last I'll say - since I don't want to further line your pockets - in a country like Eritrea, local assemblies do most of the work. It's one of the only ways a multi-ethnic society in Africa can function.

The election of local assemblies in Eritrea have been judged free and fair by the international community.

No such statement can be made for China.

Eritrea is an emerging democracy. Not perfect, not full by any standard though.

No such statement can be made for China.

China's democracy is actually pretty interesting and revolutionary:

Since taking power in 1978, Deng Xiaoping experimented with direct democracy at the local level. Villages have been traditionally the lowest level of government in China's complicated hierarchy of governance. In the early 1980s, a few southern villages began implementing "Vote for your Chief" policies, in which free elections are intended to be held for the election of a village chief, who holds a lot of power and influence traditionally in rural society. Many of these multi-candidate elections[19] were successful, involving candidate debates, formal platforms, and the initiation of secret ballot boxes

Under the Organic Law of Village Committees, all of China's approximately 1 million villages are expected to hold competitive, direct elections for sub-governmental village committees. A 1998 revision to the law called for improvements in the nominating process and enhanced transparency in village committee administration. The revised law also explicitly transferred the power to nominate candidates to villagers themselves, as opposed to village groups or CCP branches.

Bullshit.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2013/11/06/the-country-thats-never-had-an-election/

For the past 20 years, since the country was formally recognized by the international community on May 24, 1993, Eritrea has been ruled by President Isais Afwerki (pictured above) and the Peoples Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ). After an initially promising start toward democratization, the Isaias regime became insular and repressive. Over the years the ailing President Isaias has become exceedingly paranoid about losing control. The country has yet to hold an election, and its 1997 constitution, which recognizes universal human rights, remains suspended.

There are no independent political parties, civil society organizations, or independent news organizations operating in Eritrea. Independent public gatherings are prohibited.

The Committee to Protect Journalists ranked Eritrea as the worlds most censored country in 2012, reporting that it is Africas leading jailer of journalists (and the worlds fourth worst). Reporters Without Borders ranked Eritrea at the bottom of its Press Freedom Index in 2013. No independent, domestic news agency has operated since 2001, the same year that the Eritrean government expelled its last accredited foreign news reporter.

Post proof that "election of local assemblies in Eritrea have been judged free and fair by the international community".

Eritrea is an emerging democracy. Not perfect, not full by any standard though.

LOL @ calling a one party state an "emerging democracy".
