Does your Neighborhood break open Fire Hydrants

I live in Pilsen, Chicago. There are 2 fire hydrants open where I live. One is two lots up the block and one is at the intersection. All these grown men were partying so proud of themselves for taking the initiative to open it up. You guys couldn't have just all contributed garden hoses of water?

--> How is it that the City of Chicago does not just hire crews to drive around and close them up again? <--

There are lots of immature men in the City of Chicago but how difficult is it to

  1. close fire hydrants
  2. have an automated system telling you that one is open (PS city claimed to have been doing this 10 years ago)

(PPS the reported fire hydrants stay open for a day on non holiday middle of the week)

People really do not get water as a resource or how much it costs to process it. The parts for the one near me were stolen so the water department turned off the water to the hydrant because they could not turn off the hydrant.

I found a quote made by a community activist in Englewood neighborhood last year saying open the hydrant for a few hours. *nasty sarcastic laugh here*

They really do not understand the cost of processing, testing and pumping water. Or maybe she could not comprehend 3 million other people besides herself depending on the water flow.
