A quart of whole milk Greek yogurt is $5-$6

A gallon of milk is $4 and makes two quarts of Greek yogurt

Heat gallon of whole milk to 185 F (I use saute setting)

Turn off heat and let it sit for a few mins

Water bath to cool down to 115 F

Add a spoonful of yogurt and mix well

Run 9 hour yogurt cycle (I start before bed)

Fridge until cold (I just do 12 hours from when I wake up until dinner time)

Strain out whey (12-24 hrs depending on desired thickness)

If you regularly eat yogurt then you should already have the yogurt

That seems like a lot more work than going to the store And a lot of time. By the time its done, I wont even want the yogurt anymore. I agree with helIy. Ill just buy it

It has no added sugar, it's just the nutrients from the gallon of milk, minus what gets removed as whey. The nutrition content would be similar to commercial plain whole milk yogurt, like Chobani or the one pronounced Fa-yeh.

~9g fat, ~6g carbs, ~16g protein per 170g serving

Electrical heating an insulated ceramic chamber is almost 100% efficient. Current electricity prices in my area are about 14 / kWh. Instant pot is 1000 watts at maximum delivery. Even if it were running 50% of the time on yogurt mode (a conservative overestimate) for 10 hours, that's only $0.70 of electricity.
