I cant tell you guys how much money I've gotten back from cans and bottles because I live in Michigan and we're one of the few states that offer 10 whole cents per recyclable container (soda cans and bottles, beer bottles and cans, etc).

I know theres some that offer like 5 cents and California has their own system iirc. I dont see why all States dont have some kind of equivalent

Cost aside, it keeps them out of landfills, of which America has a fuckload.

Its actually technically called "deposit" lol. It's really only worth it when you cash in a bag load at once. Otherwise you're just getting like a buck and a couple dimes for that 12 pack you spent 6-7 dollars on.

Everywhere in canada has that. Ten cents for beer cans, 5 for pop cans, and bottles vary depending on size.

Its nice cause it's a free case of beer every month essentially.

No it isn't. You're just borrowing the bottles, with your dime as collateral.
Back when glass bottles were the norm, and bottlers would wash and reuse them, bottle deposit was actually cost-effective.

I'm aware of that, but it reduces litter and garbage and since the price has been built in for as long as I've been drinking I dont notice it or think about it when I buy beer.

Ergo its feels like a free case of beer, but the other benefits are what makes it a no brainer to implement.

I had no idea there were places in America that don't do this. It's pretty stupid not too tbh. The results speak for themselves.

Hell one town near here even gives addicts 10 cents for every syringe brought in.... the first week alone homeless people cleaned up over 1000 needles that were just littered in public areas.
