I never touched this game because of bad initial reception, and I know the launch was buggy, but I'm about halfway through (I think) the PC version and my LORD it has been fantastic. There are still bugs but nothing overwhelming like in your standard Bethesda game from 10 years ago. A floating item here and there.

Can't believe I was not only hesitant to grab it on Steam but for how long I've waited to play it

And the developer cried about people not buying their game for $60. Fuck them.

Was it Boozer related or was it O'Brian related?

Yeah. Rumors are circling that it may have a chance getting back after the PC release but nothing definitive. I'm hoping for it now

Yeah, it was pretty decent in terms of open-world stuff and combat. Finished playing it again a few weeks ago, actually. However, the dialogue is pathetically amateurish (I can't accept that it's always that way because of biker-related stuff) and there are some plot contrivances I wasn't a fan of either. I'd give it a B or B+ overall with the hopes they'd correct some things for the sequel -- if it ever comes about.

As far as glitches go, I didn't encounter too many, honestly. Most of the few I had -- mostly the game crashing or something -- occured in the last third of the story.

They made a big deal about him looking for his wife. They really act like hes crazy and shes surely dead. When he finds her it seems like a huge under reaction. No ones too shocked or surprised and they act very normal versus so glad to see each other again. They really built up people doubting her still being alove yet really underreact compared to the build up. Its not the biggest deal but seemed weird.

In terms of acting or writing? I personally thought the acting was on point for about the entire game, with the exception of survivors you find and save throughout the world.

Writing I can totally feel your grievances. It felt off to me in a few places, but I overall still loved it. I just wish They didn't go full happy ending in a couple areas, like Boozer. I thought that was really dumb (his sacrifice), both in execution and how he survived. But it also might've been the fact that at that part of the game they just jumped from one cutscene to the next without the player getting the option to travel from point A to point B with character dialogue in between, you know, like they did for the entire game before this section.

Budget must've been getting tight.

And I lied about being halfway through. I actually just beat it a few moments ago prior to posting this. I'm always concerned people post spoilers without marking them like this and didn't want another user who might be interested in the game to stumble upon a spoiler.

I dont like the main storyline and find all the characters completely unlikeable, especially Boozer, but once you get into the horde fights its some serious fun

:(. I love Boozer. I also really like Deek too.

The horde stuff is what gets me going. I tihnk about 20 of my 100 hours was just out driving around looking for hordes unknowingly doing it almost for nothing since some hordes don't spawn until you complete certain story quests

I laughed when there's that long opening cinematic setting up the player fighting their way out of their building while the helicopter departs, only for the game to immediately timeskip to a random point in the future instead

I thoroughly enjoyed it and I love that more people are trying it and liking it. I'll avoid saying too much about the story if you're only halfway through it.

Writing. The dialogue is mediocre and -- now that I've written a game script for this site -- you can go back and look at how bad it is. Lots of hemming and hawing, stuttering, choppy nonsense, etc. It all winds up passable, but I'd hope they'd do way better on a sequel. I can definitely see how many people hated all the characters, though. I was okay with most of 'em, but got a little annoyed by certain aspects, like Rikki constantly snooping every time you tried to do something on your own. Iron Mike was pretty great overall, however, so he might wind up being my fave character. (O'Brian was good, too, and didn't deserve most of the hate he got.)

As for Boozeman, I personally enjoyed him. He was way better pre-Lost Lake, though, because he mellowed out afterwards and got kinda bland. The part where you blow up the reservoir and drown the Rippers was badass, though -- maybe the most badass moment in the entire game. And I was glad to have Boozer there to enjoy it.

I respectfully disagree with this point. Deek was certainly the only one really looking for his wife and going stir crazy over it. Boozer was just trying to keep Deek alive. In fact, Boozer was one of the few things keeping Deek alive, and it mentioned in the game. But Boozer also wanted Deek to move on. When Deek finally possessed evidence that Sarah was still alive, and then told Boozer, Boozer did nothing but support him, despite his earlier scene 10 hours prior of getting Deek to say "she is dead".
Other than Boozer, no one else really needed a reaction. Rikki maybe.

When they saw each other again, they had to be quiet and play it safe, since this new camp had a policy against fraternization. Also, Kouri had Deeks Ring. Deek was still very skeptical about why his wife gave the ring to Kouri. However the scenes that follow... the tension between them two (Deek and Sarah) just gets stronger and stronger, until finally, they are ready to go AWOL together after fucking in a cabin.

This was actually annoying af for me too. Same thing for any flashbacks. Story and exposition in the flashbacks was solid. The lack of gameplay attached to them was a big missed opportunity

If you have a good PC, grab it on PC, if you grab it at all, and make sure you have an SSD. I really would say pull the trigger and then give it a good 5 hours. This is what I did. Almost dropped it at the beginning too. The beginning is SLOWWWWW but it does pick up. I'm glad I stuck with it. Seeing and fighting my first horde was the thing that just amped me and then there's this Sawmill...

I honestly just wanted more Boozer throughout the game. Boozer kicking Deeks ass with one arm was a great moment. The one you mentioned in tags was incredible. And honestly, I loved Boozer's jokes, despite losing his arm.

Yeah, I never really understood the whole "I'm missing an arm, I can't ride no more!!!" stuff. It seemed like a plot-mandated reason to sideline him, which kinda ruined the whole bro adventure aspect. Rikki could've wired him up some rigging to keep riding, especially after turning him into Edward Knifehand, that melon baller/stickshifter add-on, etc. She showed how good she is at mechanics, after all. If they'd just come out and said, "without my hand, riding isn't fun anymore" or something, that would've made more sense.
