Rao's is pretty good as far as premade goes but nothing beats just making it yourself

I've pretty much stopped with the pasta sauces after I found out that our costco sells San Marzanos in a can with basil. About as close as I'll ever get to a proper tomato base, just add a few spices. Makes a huge difference with pasta dishes and even soups.

I can't afford $8 pasta sauce. But I'm sure it tastes good.

I mean some tomatoes, some onions, garlic, some butter, some basil, some sugar. Is that not what 90% of these sauces are?

The "some" part is where most people have trouble with I assume.

It's super easy. Just takes time. All you need is a can of peeled tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, and salt. + Whatever you want to add be it oregano or hot peppers or whatever.

Throw it all in a saucepan and cut up the tomatoes and stir for about 20 minutes or more.

You can also use fresh tomatoes in which case you'll want to cut up the tomatoes first and cook them in the sauce pan by themselves for a while and it takes longer. Fresh tomatoes is a lot of work but does taste better. You'll also get tomato skin in the sauce.
