I don't think I've ever seen more of a slog of a boss fight. It's just not fun design to make a boss that's virtually invincible most of the time.

And I almost swear my game was bugged because it virtually never swapped into wind or thunder weakness. It was stuck on blizzard weakness most of the time and occasionally swapped into fire weakness.

It was really easy my second time through. My first time I got so pissed at the last stage that I game over'd on purpose and looked up how to fight it. Somehow I didn't pick up on that it switched weaknesses. Once I moved my materia around to counter the boss it went by quick

First time it took a bit of time but when I got better at the battle system it was pretty easy and quick even on hard.

But to be honest I think they might have inflated its HP a bit so they could work in the commentators going about their routine. The fact that they have response to summons gave me a big hype boost, so I'd say it was worth it. :-P

It's not bad if you're geared up exactly for it. In a normal run, it's a slog on your first attempt at the very least and then you hit a point where you've sunk so much time into that battle that you don't want to restart and go for a properly prepared fight.

the only thing dumb about it is the magic weakness being like 2 seconds. so by the time you figure out what it is, cast it, and wait for it to actually hit it, its already switched. pissed me the FUCK off

Tbh, most bosses were plain bad because they had multiple cutscenes that reset whatever progress you made on their stagger bar.
SE really needs to stop using that mechanic if they can't figure out how to make it work.

I only watched a walkthrough of it because I don't have it and was curious but man I'm glad I was able to fast forward through a lot of it.

Idk if they were trying to time the battles to last as long as in the original but I feel like they lasted way longer in general.

And they jammed a LOT of filler in there.

Ya'll, I'm not a moron. I understand how it's supposed to be fought, but it highlights a flaw in the game. You're meant to counter with the right weakness, but you can't change materia in combat. I wasn't using Aero or Blizzard materia because I found those to be rare weaknesses. By the time I realized just how much of a slog it was going to be, it was already half health.

And, as I mentioned, it virtually never swapped over to being weak to Thunder which is what I had equipped on Aerith. It did it once in the first phase and for a few seconds in the last phase - and then I got so excited about being able to use Thunder that I didn't pay attention and Aerith died lol. So nearly all the damage I dealt was just from Cloud's Fire spell.

It's about as bad as the boss of palace 5 in Persona 5 Royal. Terrible.

This was the highlight of the whole game for me lol. I was anticipating this fight and didn't even know they were gonna go all out with it. When I realized they made it a centerpiece, I jizzed all over my own face.

Yeah it was long and boring. It wasn't hard, I was never in danger of losing, but even knowing how to do it the fight takes forever. Several of the bosses in the game are like that, not really hard just fucking tedious. Count me on the side of not really liking FF7 Remake part 1. The fun was there and leaked out sometimes, but over and over the game clamped down with horrible pacing and drawn out bullshit and just ruined everything.

Wasn't the Hell House a nasty encounter for newbie players in the original game too? Remake's difficulty might be a nod to that.

I'd say annoying, but not bad. The fight itself is very well designed, it's just figuring out the mechanics and how to properly exploit them that is the problem. Once it's figured out though, the a breeze.

Possibly, but if that was the intention they overdid it a bit. If you go into that fight completely unprepared it can be harder than the game's final boss.

It isn't too bad until it pops out of its shell and then it fucks you up pretty good when it rams you.

This too. Its attacks are easy to avoid, but they they take fucking forever and they deal enough damage that you can't just try to tank it and deal damage.

If you go into it without all the elemental spells and don't figure it out, sure. Still kind of an awesome boss regardless. It's so Big Stupid
