Feels like a standard, generic RPG so far (which isnt a bad thing - just how it feels), but man, they did a really bad job with item descriptions at times. Like I am getting items called BStn, CStn, DkKiss, and ProtnB, and the only in-game description for them is You can use this item during a battle. Any time Ive used them, its just been elemental damage. Wish it would just say something like that. Fire damage in battle.

Or you can buy Herbs for super cheap (like 9 GP) to restore HP or you can buy Cure for 1,000 GP, and it has the same description.

I feel like even Final Fantasy 1 on NES did a better job describing items and such.

Healing items are too cheap. The game is like way hard when you have nina and bo for a while but you get Shin and dragon transformations at a similar time and they are really imbalanced in your favor. Shin will carry you like half the game while ryu busts dragon forms out for bosses.

I love Shin. Take 3 garbage characters and fuse them into a demi-god.

BOF1 and 2, especially 2, both have incredibly bad translations even for the time they were released. And yes, you're right, in the original japanese everything had pretty simplistic names but the US version has the weird trunicated FF1 names so half the time it's impossible to tell what the hell anything is

I pray god will curse the writer, as the writer has cursed the world with this beautiful, stupendous creation, terrible in its simplicity, irresistible in truth

BoF2 feels like they strongly nerfed fusions and dragon forms but a hidden character and giant island destroy the challenge.....

The healers in 2 are also decent fighters. What were they thinking?

BoF1 was really imbalanced. Dragon forms were too strong. Karn forms were too strong. You get unlimited free tuna for fishing with Rod 5. Combined with Agni the game essentially auto plays. Nothing can hurt you to any appreciable level.

BoF2 overnerfed the dragon to the point of uselessness. Shaman transformations were gimped by the HP requirements.

Breath of Fire 3 struck a perfect balance although Tiamat was still a little too strong.

I had to glue myself to a guide because there were numerous instances in the game you were given very poor direction. And at one point I believe are not even told where to go at all.

And eventually I just quit the game customers I got lost and tired of the guide.

Final Fantasy IV had come out 2 years prior and gave perfectly fine descriptions. The first translation wasnt perfect, but you knew what the items did.

Other games that came out earlier or at the same time like Dragon Quest IV, Phantasy Star II & III, Shining in the Dark and Shining Force were all fine with item descriptions.
