Erika is the RC that they'll sacrifice at the merge.

Naseer/Heather are the Mike/Lisa that get sick of the trio and flip on them shortly after the merge.

This is better than episode three, but I once again am not happy about how much focus the idol and advantages are getting.

That advantage Liana got would be fine if they hadn't made EVERY OTHER ADVANTAGE so public this season. All the extra votes are obtained with others knowing of the chance and all idols have trigger phrases uttered in front of everyone. Did love the editing surprise with Naseer's idol, at least.

I don't like the production this season because they focus more on advantages than players. Whereas things like the very complex Ricard/Shan relationship, Sydney being a boss (people hate her because they ain't her - and also because she's a she), and "That is Naseer" are all very interesting. The overshadowing of what makes Survivor glorious is alienating the masses and I think the show is going to die because of it.

The thing with Liana's advantage is that it seems like she has to play it in the open at tribal council, so everyone is going to know what she has when she steals it.

I really liked the editing they did with Naseer finding the Beware advantage. Very Genius-esque. I'd like them to do more of that.

Episode was fine otherwise. The boot was predictable. We'll see if the (un)intentional Matsing works out this time.

I haven't watched last night's episode yet (nor Tough as Nails) but based on the fact that there are only like 10ish new posts I'm guessing nothing particularly exciting happened. Probably a routine boot like Genie or someone.

If you're going to watch it, you should start with season 1. They like to bring back veteran players to host challenges, and generally spoil their placements. Furthermore, season 1 was the best so far, so, yeah start there.

I'm honestly surprised that Erika didn't smash it the instant Jeff took out the hammer. Though part of me thinks that she won't smash it because Xander isn't ever allowed to get a break in this game.

Is it just me, or does the way that Probst emotes this season with his hands make him seem like a big time tweaker. Plenty of people talk with their hands, but the way he is doing it seems really off.

I feel like Naseer could've been convinced not to use it, especially if blue specifically said "you're more capable of surviving on your own than Erika" as their reasoning for sending him to Exile.

Yeah I literally wouldn't have hesitated. It would have been shattered before Jeff left the beach.

And Xander seems like this season's Michael Yearger. Very young guy who is the de facto "biggest threat" yet despite this and despite literally everything going wrong for him, he somehow goes deep into the game and eventually gets booted fairly unceremoniously.

I would never smash it right away unless a time limit says so. In case there are other catches or if after smashing it, they give her parchment and a pencil or something.

I would've smashed the thing the moment Jeff said that's how you turn back time. "You mean... like this?" Remember when he died a little inside every time someone burned the idol clues in BvW? Yeah, I'd wreck his cliffhanger. He'd have hated me forever, but let's be real: This isn't a cliffhanger. "Will Erika have a brain?" is not a valid question. It gives me no interest in seeing what happens.

Poor Xander, though. If I were Tiffany, I'd go up to him and be like, "Xander, I need you to give me your idol. They're all voting for you tonight and Liana has an Idol Snatcher. I am not making that up. She will take your idol from you at Tribal unless you give it to me now - she only has one shot. And I will play it on you. We vote Liana, it's done." Whether she actually goes through with that is to be seen.

My problems with this season are so deep, though. Production doesn't trust the cast. The idol stealer is ridiculous. This merge twist is too hard to follow, even for me. I like that they're doing something different, but this is an insane, season-killing twist that is far more convoluted than necessary. Plus, it's highly unfair, because Jeff outright LIED to the contestants - he never did that with things like the first tribe swap or idols. On top of that, the segregation alliance happening again makes me ill.

All this is why I don't intend to continue watching this show. It's not fun to watch. It's mindless entertainment that doesn't provoke the intellectual discussion that Survivor usually does for me. It's become like Big Brother. It's not the show I want to watch. The one I want to watch is Survivor SA.

Just finished the episode.

When Jeff started talking about "turning back time", for the briefest moment, a fraction of a second, I thought he was going to reveal there was a secret Edge of Extinction running all this time and everyone eliminated would be re-entered into the game.

....I guess the twists aren't that bad yet.

That would have been before the premiere. Perhaps you're confusing that with Big Brother, which I also stopped watching for good this year (pretty sure I wasn't the only).

Survivor is just feeling too staged and fake. It's not fun to talk about intellectually anymore, nor is it anything but mindless trashy reality TV. It's sad.
