It's just so radio fodder for me. They served their purpose, but need to take a wee break. IMO.

But for mainstream bands that stand the test of time.. Yeah let's go with the Beatles, Abba, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors.

When are you defining the beginning of punk? My dad is a boomer (by definition) and punk was definitely not around in his teens/20s

The Ramones and Sex Pistols formed/started recording around 1975. My dad was 30. My mom was 27.

I wonder when someone decided baby boomers (baby's born after soldiers came home after WWII) are also children born in the 60s. Never made sense to me. I'm only 4 years way from qualifying as a boomer and I was born right before the Vietnam war started. It's weird. Why the change...baby boomer in the context of post WWII makes sense. BB being born around Vietnam...doesn't? You know Brad Pitt is a boomer? :-/

Per Wikipedia, Baby Boomers are people born between 1946-1964. The late 50's/early 60's seems to be a stretch, but here we are

Each era has good music and bad music that has entered the popular lexicon. Some of the bad music is forgotten, some of it is still on rotation on your average same 50 songs a day radio...the argument of what is better is kinda pointless.

I listen to mainly bands that aren't super mainstream or on the radio, so the argument of what era has good music or bad music is weird because, in the "underground" every era has fantastic music...I listen to a lot of punk, so the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s all have great music for what I listen to.

As far as songs that are modern classics, one that quickly springs to mind is "The Battle Of Hampton Roads" by Titus Andronicus.

I should listen to more music from the 00s and 10s, the reason isn't because I am prejudging it - there's just SO MUCH music to listen to, I could never leave the 80s punk scene and still have tons and tons of bands to listen to. I just haven't gotten there yet.

Definitely think there is room to argue that New York Dolls and The Stooges can be called part of punk. They were at the very least two of the most influential bands to early punk and were early 70s and late 60s respectively.

Punk started in the late 60s/early 70s.

That is late teens/early 20s for most boomers and like 5-10 for Gen X if you go by The Ramones rather than the proto punk bands I'm going based on.

Sure, some gen xers were getting into punk as it fleshed out more, but the formative years of punk took place during the early adulthood of boomers.

I was more looking at what gen liked punk music. Which was my mothers generation. Like one of her favorite bands was literally named generation x

I find the discussion on exact age boundaries completely irrelevant as, in the context of music, boomer is not an age but a sound and a cultural thing. Plenty of bands in the past 30 years that sound like that or follow the same logic in their music.
