One of my gf's nieces(the same racist one if anyone remembers the topic from months ago) buy Beats shit and knows that Beats has inferior sound for the money, but does it anyone because she thinks it makes her look cool.

I mean, buying fashion clothing is one thing, but you can get so much better quality with Klipsch or Sennheiser, I think it's just straight up stupid.

Mostly, she just values the headphones more as an accessory than as a listening device. As long as they meet a minimum standard of playing music well (which they do), she considers the potential for better sound quality to be secondary to how they look. It's just a matter of different priorities; she probably thinks you're just as dumb for sacrificing looks for the sake of optimizing the sound.

To be fair, if she's associating with people who think the brand is cool, and the fact that she's using it does in fact make them think that she's cool, then it's successfully working exactly as she intends it to.

She's not paying for the headphones, she's paying for other people's reaction to them. Or even her own reaction to them, if simply having them boosts her sense of self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-image.

People have paid far more for less.

How is it any different? You're buying clothes that will almost certainly not last as long and which usually aren't as comfortable as much cheaper brands. You're paying almost exclusively for the brand name, and the sense of ego you get when you or other people are aware of the brand you're wearing.

You're not paying for the product, you're paying for the name, and everything that comes with it.

Often, what you're ultimately paying for is the sense of superiority or satisfaction that comes from owning something others don't.

This is literally the exact opposite thing that happens with clothes. Branded clothes or more expensive labels last longer than unbranded or cheaper labels.

Ive experienced it myself with shoes and belts. Buying cheap brands or unbranded ones they would crack and fray after a few weeks/months whereas Ive bought more well known brands and they havent cracked or frayed since I bought them in 2015.

I would imagine same goes for jackets too, thats why youre better off going for something like Patagonia or north face as opposed to a shops own brand especially when actual durability and function is key.

im surprised you think unbranded clothes last longer and are better quality than branded ones. Where have you seen that?

Again something else I disagree with. I find my Dickies t shirts last longer when Im out and about and can withstand more washes than for example H&M or Primark shit - all are made of 100% cotton, but one brand is more durable than the others in my experience.

I have Dickies tops Ive had since 2015, theyre all good. Stuff Ive bought from cheap shops starts to get rips and tears in it after a number of washes (that includes some cheap shit Ive bought from Ralph Lauren outlets for example).

I get tired of having to buy the same shit again and again, just buy it once and forget about it and dont have to worry about poor quality clothes falling apart.

Depends on the material. If the clothes are made with quality material, theyll last longer. But if the only reason its expensive is because of the brand name, but the materials are the same as other clothes, then theyll last about the same amount of time
