The only example I can think of is a 1990 movie called Hardware about a killer robot. Some of the scenarios and character names were a little too close to a story in a specific issue of Fleetway Comics' 2000AD series. They sued and were granted writing credits and royalties.

It has to be easier to prove beyond reasonable doubt that someone watched your movie or read your novel than it is to prove that someone watched your TV series and stole a plot from a specific episode. Likewise for comic issues and other forms of serialized media.
