Ill preface this to say that I actually did like most of Dalinars bits. Apparently this is considered his book, so I suppose it makes sense. Otherwise, I kinda felt like I didnt care about the other characters anymore, except Elkohar and Szeth. Elkohar, well, things went a bit poorly for him, but arguably it was done well, or well enough. Szeths whole thing was interesting enough, but they didnt really expand on the multiple issues with him being where he was at the end of the book. I would assume it gets addressed next book, but its a bit odd.

Kaladins mental struggle about both sides was interesting enough, but then I feel like it gets ignored, or just retreads the same ground. I get its hard to decide something like that in short order, but it wasnt interesting.

I couldnt stand Shallan in this book despite being fine with her in the previous two. The Veil and Radiant thing bugged me beyond belief. Maybe Im just being unfair, but I hated it so much. Im finding it difficult to say exactly what rubbed me the wrong way. Its possible that it was more accurate to mental health struggles then I realize, and Im just uncomfortable with it? Perhaps thats the case, but it doesnt make me like it.

The Kaladin/Shallan/Adolin love triangle thing sucked the whole time it was happening, and the ending (presumably) was also garbage. Adolin is an inoffensive character himself, but thats about the extent of it.

From what Ive typed in this topic, maybe I didnt hate this book, but the bad stuck with me much more than the good in this instance.

I'm not going to do a whole write up of it right now, but honestly I feel he lost the thread a bit with the last two books.

Maybe they are building towards something greater, but the conflicts and resolutions in them have largely felt pointless. The needle doesn't seem to shift much, and it seems he was repeating the same themes imo.

Im really iffy about starting RoW. Something Ive heard a lot about books closer to the middle of a series, say, books 3-6 in a 10 part series, is that they often drag their feet. Personally Ive heard the complaints about AFFC in ASOIAF, but I actually liked that book fine, so Im unsure if its a real thing, or just an excuse. Ive heard that Shallans multiple personalities dont leave, arguably becoming more prominent, which makes me even more unwilling.

have you read the novellas? those are good for between stormlight books.

and yeah, I think you won't like RoW as much. It def is a little slow at times, but there are moments that make you go wtfff and yeah, it's fun.

You spend the entirety of RoW dealing with her mental issues and working towards some resolution, kaladin does the exact same with his.

Potential spoilers (not really, no details) kaladins arc I actually felt was worse, it was so utterly predictable and pointless, the only thing you spend your time wondering is who is going to be the sacrifice since all our heroes cant get through this pointless arc unscathed. That wasnt surprising in the end either.

*I would also recommend the novellas, they were all quite good

Are the novellas about Edgedancer length? I read that one because it seemed like a common recommendation. It made me appreciate that Lift wasnt a POV, at least >_>.

Take a break from the series, then take your time with RoW. I struggled through most of OB but I absolutely loved RoW. Expectations had a lot to do with it, and I rushed OB and took my time with RoW.

And I thought OB was worse when it came to the repetitiveness of Shallans personalities.
