i'm on case g2-2 and a bit confused about the order of events

so, time-wise, it goes g1-4, g2-2, g1-5, right? if that's the case, i'm not sure why ryunosuke
has been saying that g2-2 is the case after which he can no longer practice law in england, when we already know he's defended someone since?

It goes:

G-4
G2-2
G-5
G2-1

Ryunosuke flashes back to G2-2 after G2-1. He was disbarred after G-5 and remained so as he flashed back to the events of G2-2.

Examination Summations are super fun. I like this trial a lot.

This judge is a lot less stupid than is usual from the franchise.

Actually hit a roadblock in the case. A spot where I can't discern the game's logic on what it want me to do. I'm going to have to brute force try out all the evidence of all statements, but I'll do that tomorrow. It's during Lestrade's first testimony. Really loving the case so far. The characters, the jury system, the twists (though we haven't had anything major yet). Van Zieks' boot. It's great.

I'm at a loss for what to do. Unless I fucked up, I presented every evidence to every statement and got nothing. I even went back and looked at everything in the cabin again to make sure I didn't miss an update to that evidence. But there also is no weird reaction during pressing. And Susato is incredibly unhelpful. Honestly, I dunno if I missed something somehow, like can you need to point to someone who isn't reacting weirdly at some point?

So I finished case 3. That was honestly amazing. Probably the best third case in the franchise. Only one that has it possibly beat is Turnabout Academy. Inherited Turnabout would finish out the top 3. That snafu where I was stuck for an hour+ aside, I loved everything. The characters, the the visual language of the jury system, of Van Zieks, etc. Like the first case, the animations were spectacular. The outcome was really great (although I must kind of say post #264 unintentionally lead my brain to the result). I really like the differentiated structuring of cases in the game with the second one having no trial and the third one have a full-sized case without an investigation. It's such a simple way to spruce up a by now well-worn formula. Curious though how Sholmes got no exposure. I'm excited for how Scrooge McDuck features into the story going forward. I'm kind of assuming that was him in the omnibus at the end.

This game is kind of great.

I looked up the book, and there's a version that apparently includes an (obviously) fictional account where he met Sherlock Holmes, lol. I guess we see the game's inspiration there!

I'm kind of slow with these kind of games. Still only on the investigation phase of this case. I have 1 piece of evidence in my court record and it's a map >_>

Natsume's kitty is cute.

I'm really enjoying how openly they're just disregarding blue text in this game and how other characters can just tell exactly what Naruhodo is thinking. They usually play around with it a bit, but nothing like this.

Also, Susato is probably my favourite Maya clone in the series. She's a lot better than Kay and Trucy. Might even like her more than Maya herself, tbh.

Finished the investigation and about to start the trial. With my amazing 2 pieces of "evidence", lol. Good times ahead.

Gotta say, that last section of the investigation where you have to decide if you want to defend the accused was really fucking good. It's the first time that the whole "believe in your client" spiel the games like to do has felt like anything other than Phoenix being a moron. They made it a matter of Naruhodo's heart rather than trying to instill it as some sort of lawyer's tenet, and it was very genuine and pleasing to read.

Edit: This jury seems highly partial.

Finished the fourth case and it was... good? I liked a lot of it, but something about it just feels kind of underwhelming. I'm not sure. Maybe its that it isn't a murder case, but there's something about the narrative of the case that just doesn't engage. But there's a lot to like about it. I think the Beates are probably my all time favourite witness in the series. I don't like the Garridebs very much. Natsume himself is a really pleasing character, especially how his overstated neuroticism ties into his real life counterpart. I really like Sholmes in the case. His characterization is much better than in case 2, I feel. A couple of the jury characters are really good, and I like how you engage with their reasoning here more than I did in case 3. And overall there's something about the court proceedings in the case that feels overwhelmingly genuine. Like we're not just going through the motions of a trial like I often feel in the Phoenix Wright games. Most everything that happens here has well-written underlying purpose. So yeah, pretty good, but there is a certain something that feels a bit lacking.

Excited about the next and last case of the first game. I'm kind fo assuming that all the loose ends are gonna get tied up in this game and won't transfer into the next one, so we gonna have to get into all the stuff about the British woman in the first case (totally forgot her name, lol), Kazuma's intentions in Britain, Gina Lestrade, What's up with Van Zieks, probably Natsume escaping the reaper's curse as he must, what happened with Ebenezer Scrooge, what role Wilson's death plays, the evil-looking troubadour and his buddy we saw for one second in this case, and of course, whether Stronghart is as evil as he looks and his name suggests. ...It's gonna be a long case.

Yup, a lot of the game's cases are a slow wind-up. That one might be a disappointing for a final case for some, but it's really only the halfway point, since the sequel is about as direct a sequel as can be.

Finally made it to the trial of the case. That was... long. Long but good. I've noticed that even when you investigate you have a lot less evidence in this game than you do in others. It's quite curious as a choice. Means that there will be more ass pulls of evidence in the trial itself. The blood gun was a neat feature that I wish had been utilized in other cases. In general the way Sholmes investigates the scene in the case 2 opening with his gadgets is something I really wish had been utilized in the game beyond this last case. It got me very excited and it not entering into the investigation was part of my let down with the early part of case 2. I wonder if we're going to do a multiday case for the last one. All the rest have had no investigation after the trial began. Which honestly is a pretty welcome way to do cases. I like that a lot. But there's a lot to go through in this one, holy hell. At this point I'm kind of wondering if Thrice-fired Mason was Gina's father. Seems like something this franchise might pull. Knowing that she's in the second game I'm wondering if Susato returns in this one or if she's reintroduced in the next one. I kind of hope she's not truly gone. It would feel kind of an empty ending without her.

In terms of the case itself it kind of feels like the least "Major" final case in a game so far. Like there's no international spy implications or corrupt judicial representatives to take down. I don't have a problem with that, it gives the option to focus more on characterization and the case has done that really well so far. The sinking in that Naruhodo got a guilty man declared innocent was really well done in that small glimpse. It's kind of a retread of Farewell, My Turnabout, but the lesson learned there never stuck and we really have been in need of a refresher. I hope they expand on his coming to terms with that in the trial section itself. It could be very interesting. And obviously the shadow who shot Sholmes was the jester guy from the fourth case and presumably his associate. Whether or not they will end up being the murderer, I'm not sure, but we also haven't introduced any other potential candidates other than Eggs Benedict.

Might finish today. Probably won't.

I feel your frustration with the limited evidence. A lot of the trials literally feel like our hero just saying "Let's just talk about mundane things with everyone in the room until we eventually find something crucial!". Like, I get a witness letting slip something new, but the game is dependent several times on a random juror happening to mention something about the city or their job or daily schedule that ends up being a crucial clue. Like, in Case 4, the fact that one of the jurors happened to visit a bookstore in that area the same day led to a clue about road construction that day and the existence of a different bookstore. Really? This is what we're dependent on for evidence, especially when we were literally on that road in the investigation section already...?

At some point it feels like we're one step away from a juror mentioning having a big breakfast, Naruhado beginning a long questioning about what he usually eats for breakfasts, and unearthing the fact that bacon produces smoke as a vital clue, lmao.
