even if you're okay with using bad words to insult others, there are some words that cross the line such as derogatory terms for the physically and mentally disabled.

It's honestly not even appropriate for people with disabilities as a medical term as it's not accurate. It implies that they're just a little slower than everyone else and they just need a little more time and they'll catch up when that will never actually happen.

It never sounded like that to me. It's meant to mean literal mental deficit (medically), then folks started using it in a casual/joking fashion.

I made the decision to quit using it about 15 or so years ago, and am a better person for it. But I'll freely admit that I get pangs of withdrawal from time to time; there's never been a more poignant word for insulting someone's intelligence. And on rare occasions it slips out when no one else is in earshot, most often when I'm having a vent / tirade over a video game loss.

Eeeehhh, I made the decision to not say it in my life just because that's the way society goes and I have no problem with being polite in society. It costs me nothing and makes the world a better place.

But at the same time, I'll be completely honest, I think it's a hilarious insult.

I also feel like the entire situation is kind of weird because the word was originally used in a medical sense to label someone of low intelligence, it wasn't a bad word or anything, then people started using it as a way to basically call someone stupid or an idiot. Then it got used so much in that sense that the medical community then said they won't use that word because it now has insulting connotations, so they use other words.

So the question that leaves me then is, why can't it now be a legit insult then? We've officially declared it to not be a medical term anymore. The only reason it was hurtful in the past was because it was a medical term describing real people, but it's not anymore, so it should now be considered in the same realm as dickwad or any other insult imo.

But I still won't use it because I'm not a jerk. v_v Just like how I don't agree with tipping in any sense, but I still tip because that's how society is now.

First three are fair enough (assuming by F word you're meaning "cigarette", not fuck), but having a problem with the C word is one of those ridiculous American things that the rest of the world thinks y'all are weird as hell for. I see nothing wrong with it, but I know to avoid it in professional settings. They keep coming up with new words for "r but not offensive", but that just gives us a new word to use offensively, so you may as well go with the original.

Except in the context of its literal meaning (which would be pretty weird to apply to the majority of men), I have never heard anyone who actually uses this word, that considers it gendered in any way.

One of the weirder words that can't be said anymore to me. I can understand the f word since it was actually used towards gay people similarly to how the n word was used towards blacks.

But almost no one ever called people who were actually mentally disabled the r word.

If you're not using it a derogative for a disabled person, I don't see any real difference between calling someone r******* and dumb, or calling them a moron. Almost all the words we use now to insult someone's intelligence were once used to denigrate people who are differently-abled. Language evolves whether you like it or not.

If you actually use it to insult someone with a disability, however, you're fucking scum.

If it means late that's fine, the R word is used to refer to a mental "late", not any other type of disability.

Think of the difference of two internet service providers, with ISP1 you get 5ms latency while with ISP2 you get 50ms latency, in this case ISP2 in R-word.

For every single task that ISP1 and ISP2 are expected to complete ISP2 will always get there last, it's not expected of ISP2 to "eventually" or out of the blue improve its latency.

Euphemism treadmill. The R word itself was at one point, created to replace an earlier word that (itself once the normal term) had become to be seen in much the same way we see the R word now. And its replacement will eventually see the same fate; unless people finally click and realize that the way the word (or rather, the meaning thereof) is used, not the word itself inherently, is what makes it offensive.
