Every call center I ever worked at required business casual at the very least, which means a button-up shirt, and pretty much any kind of pants except for jeans or sweats. Some call centers may require a tie, but not all of them do. The reason it's required is because a client who is high in the ranks might visit, and it's seen as disrespectful to dress poorly in front of a client who is much higher ranks than the rest of us.

It's absolutely fine for a call center.

I'll clarify the day I wore shorts was because it was hot as fuck(literal state of emergency over heat) and the building doesn't have working AC.

Nah. Even Tony Soprano got called out for wearing shorts at work. And he's Tony Soprano.

That's kind of how temp agencies work.

TC sounds like youve been shit on enough so Im gonna refrain from that.

If you have a car though Id recommend signing up for DoorDash. I do it in my downtime. All you have to do is drive and deliver food and you can cash out same day. I usually make about $25/hour. Some people do it full time. Id consider it if I had a vehicle I didnt mind racking up miles on. I also just dont want to deal with the tax headache but make sure you set some money aside for taxes.

Just something to think about. Keep your head up bro. Plenty of jobs out here.

One last thing Ill add is dont read on the clock bro. A lot of jobs have downtime. In that downtime, either maintain the appearance of being busy or just be completely out of sight. Sitting there reading just gives an impression you will get off task on company time.

It is stupid and I dont agree with it but thats how jobs work. The bright side of that is youre getting paid to chill. Just enjoy it and dont do anything to bring attention. It could be worse. Last time I worked in an outbound calling role we had to spend at least 50% of our time on the phone. There was a significant amount of work besides calling too. I was making probably 100-200 calls a day. They tracked dial count, occupancy time, all that.

TLDR; Always maintain at least the appearance of being busy even if youre not.

From what I hear anything that you can record data on like paper, books, smartphones etc is a no-no at call centers. The one my friend works at at just tells you to surf the web on the terminal during downtime.

That's what I've always heard, but the reality is it depends on the job. None of the ones I've worked at restricted anything, except the cell phone one forbidding cell phones in cubicles since we were dealing with vulnerable people and financial info. Kaiser didn't care at all, and this one I never heard her complain to anyone about their phones, and literally everyone in my group would pull them out on downtime.

Also worth noting that the general attitude among my coworkers was shock, and they pretty much unanimously sided with me, including several providing job leads.

Dont make excuses bro. Just dont do it again.

First week of any job you just want to go with the flow and not rock the boat.
