Should also note for context that was missed, after I apologized, I bought a better shirt, dug out the best pants I have, and showed up as close to dress code as I could. Whole day like that, not a word mentioned. I don't think this was because of the dress code. If I had to guess, they're probably letting go temps because they realised they overhired(we're literally waiting 10+ minutes between calls right now).

Would also explain why my badge and computer login still work after getting fired >.>;

Edit: I'm also on the schedule again to work up front, so apparently they expect me to work the full day. Sucks to be them.

Eh, if you are customer-facing and depending on how bad you were dressed I could see it. You're a temp and probably had expectations placed upon you from the start.

You're not an actual employee there so it's not like they have an investment in you.

Edit: WHO THE FUCK WEARS SHORTS AND SHIRT ON THEIR FIRST DAY TO A JOB?!?. Bro, i dont care if you're applying at a fucking McDonalds. On your first day you come in a suit. If you dont have a suit its dress shirt and tie with dress pants. Then you see the companies dress code and adjust to that. This is 100% your fault. I've been broke before with -200 bucks in the bank and i've still had these clothes available to me. This isnt the first time you've worn clothes. There's no excuse.

You gotta realize being a temp means you can get chewed and spit out at any given time. This one temp service in 2012 made me drive an hour north to some Battery Factory then next day said my assignment was over with. They can fuck with your paychecks too if you piss the Temp Service off.

Like I can wear shorts and a fucking comic shirt and nobody cares but I also checked with the principal of I was allowed to

Ive worked for almost 10 principals in 16 years, all with various opinions of dress code. Not a single one of them would have allowed anyone other than a PE teacher to wear shorts to school unless it was a teacher work day. They certainly dont allow casual printed t-shirts on anything other than a spirit day, or a casual Friday (and even then, many principals only allow t-shirts if it has the school logo).

Yup. Part of the reason I didn't have clothes is they'd fucked up my direct deposit so I was waiting for a check in the mail.

I'm not trying to be rude, but how are temp services even getting people right now? I don't live in a large area, but there are SO many manufacturing plants around that are hiring for $14-18/hour with benefits right at the start that require no experience at all. My company has a few slots open for $14/hour with four weeks vacation, five paid sick days, two floating holidays, and health/dental/vision insurance up front (they don't pay for all of it, but it's available) and we cannot fill them.

From my limited experience, when a temp agency tells you that you're no longer needed at a particular job, that usually means that job contacted the temp agency and said you're no longer needed. Usually that's a bad thing. It's basically the jobs way of firing you, but since you don't work for the company, they just contact the temp agency you work for instead.

It depends on the school.
Principal is fine with shorts since its very humid here and the teachers can dress like that if they want. All graphic shirt wouldn't fly unless it's in Friday or all non-uniform day for the kids where the staff dress down completely.

I've had teachers who did work in other school surprised at how casual it is

Fired for reading in between calls eh? That's dumb. I was working debt collection a while back and read comic books while on the phone with people. and no one cared. And in debt collection you call out, so theres no "down time between calls", and I read through Batman Knightfall in like 3 days while still doing my job and no one batted an eye.

That's a dumb reason.

Did no one ever tell you to dress better than expected the first day and then go down from there?

It sounds like you had clothes that were but choose not to wear them so thats on you.

For anyone that ever needs clothes though there are thrift stores to pick up something decent in a pinch.

Wearing shorts and a t-shirt and reading during office time... yeah I can see why they let you go. There is no such thing as downtime when you are on the clock. You have to realize there is no shortage of hiring right now so even as a temp you need to stand out in a positive way because if not there are 20 other people in line waiting for your position.

I personally don't agree with this. Lots of jobs have down time. But as soon as a call or customer comes in, you have to drop everything and make them the priority. Don't finish the page you're on in the book or the song you're listening to.

Hate to say it, but this could be true. I don't know about TC's job, but call centers I've worked at do not allow you to use your phone. Especially jobs where personal information like credit card numbers, Social Security numbers and such are given out regularly.
