So I'm looking for games you thought you would love that turned out to be garbage, or at least not anywhere near what you were expecting. Like I have vivid memories of playing it five days after release, being on Target Test Stage 5 with Mr. Game & Watch, and going "... am I still having fun?" And then I went back to play Melee that same day and had much more fun. But for big-name releases, Warcraft III Reforged actually destroying my ability to play a game I loved in the ways that allowed me to love it was pretty big. AC:NH was alright but was basically just an HD reskin of previous games in most respects, and was notable for having one of the most bizarrely awful takes on local multiplayer I've ever seen (where everyone on a given console has one shared island regardless of how many accounts are on the Switch, and every player except the first is locked out of doing missions of any kind). It wasn't terrible or anything, but it was below par in new content and WAY below par in quality of life upgrades from previous titles. It looks beautiful, but that's about it. Surprised it took years to become divisive, genuinely surprised it wasnt controversial at launch. More to the spirit of the topic, Spore. If you are asking for high profile general audience disappointments weve played that is certainly mine. If you are asking about games that disappointed their audience, Breath of the Wild etc. obviously isnt that but stuff like Spore, OG FFXIV and so on would be more appropriate. Two relatively recent ones: Destiny and Watch Dogs. I played the open beta of Destiny and it was very apparent that that was just a quarter of that game meaning there was barely anything to the full game. As for Watch Dogs that was hyped as the first true next gen experience for the PS4/Xbox One generation and what would free us from Assassins Creed, it wasnt, it didnt, and it was just a mediocre GTA clone unfortunately. --- I just decided to change this sig.
