But every fast food place near Duncanwii's home closes.

Do you deny him that or sacrifice one for the many?

I don't think raising min. wage to 18/h will solve many issues. It'll help out initially, but then businesses will charge more for services/products. The better solution would be to find a way to lower the overall national debt. Theoretically lowering the national debt would make the living situation a bit better at least in my opinion.

That would raise my wages by .75. Unless my company raised me higher to keep my rate "competitive ". I currently make about 4.75 over the local min.

If they didn't I would probably quit to find a lower stress job.

They'll do this regardless. Inflation has happened in places with 7.25 min wage.

well Timmy there are a bunch of issues with raising the minimum wage. Sure it helps out initially, but your not solving the root problem that caused the need for increased pay in the first place. The amount of people in min. wage jobs grows every day, and the age of retirement gets further and further away.

Lets assume you have a bucket that is filled with water daily. On day 2 you discover there is a small leak at the bottom of the bucket so you have less water to drink from. On day 4 that leak turns into a medium size hole and you have 1/4 the water to drink out of.

Sure an increase in minimum wage is nice initially, and I'm not saying it isn't warranted. But its a band-aid fix at best. If you don't plug the hole, no matter how many times that bucket is filled, its only going to get worse and worse.

You've surely heard the adage of "To obtain, something of equal value must be lost". It plays true to business as well. That money isn't just coming from nowhere. Either the business ups its costs to pay for those workers, or they fire a bunch of workers, or have them work less hours, otherwise they would start losing money and no company would want that.

The better option would be to put people into a position where they can leave minimum wage jobs for better paying work. This could be through funded programs, or some sort of exchange program where workers could learn other skills that would eventually help them find jobs paying past that blockade of minimum wage.
