Nah. If anyone tries to hurt you, protect yourself and worry about the consequences later. Don't let anyone tell you it's wrong, that's my opinion. You can feel bad about it if you want but at least you're not seriously hurt or dead.

If someone hits you and it isn't something you solicited (like a sex thing), it's time to get out. Physical abuse is never a one time thing. Often, abusive people have a history of doing things like that and have been holding back until you get reeled in. And if they don't have a history of violence, they soon will. Once you cross a line, it becomes easier to do again.

If the abusive person is female, you're also in kind of a tight spot because police tend to see men as the aggressor or just kind of ignore it altogether if you're both women.

It absolutely can be.

Example: I pissed this one girl off one time & she punched me right in the face. I think I deserved that one. Never happened again.

On paper no

I mean I can imagine very specific contexts where it could be understandable but In general that abuse is absolutely sickening and destroys all trust

If your girlfriend/wife hit you, would you be able to forgive them?

Forgiving them without calling them out on their toxic behavior sets a bad precedent for continued abuse that will inevitably escalate and promote a double standard that will backlash on the forgiver, sometimes in the worst possible ways down the road. Brushing it off is not standing strong, it's welcoming more abuse. It's being taken advantage of as someone else's emotional punching bag. And it can become even more of a serious issue for multiple reasons when children join the home.

Some of the worst ongoing and sometimes scarring domestic abuse can become a norm in a household when the abuser rationalizes the attacks as excusable for typically bullshit "reasons" (ie: "I'm a woman, therefore I can hit any man I see whenever I decide it's acceptable because I don't believe it hurts them" ). Physical abuse does not have to draw blood or send you to the emergency room for it to be alarming, hurtful, and emotionally toxic. A hard slap can still be socially damaging when it happens on a daily basis and why.

People who honestly love you DON'T rationalize casually abusing you. They prioritize preventing abuse towards you....

Roughhousing and play fighting is one thing, but when your partner is straight up casually smacking the shit out of you whenever they feel like it...that's not love. And an abuser will be quick to rationalize that it still is.

It really depends on the context. If I'm married to a woman for 10 years and she never smacks me at all but then one day I do something really awful and she smacks me I would be able to forgive her. But if I'm like dating a new girl and she punches me in the temple because I forgot her fries at McDonalds I'm just gonna walk out and never talk to her again.

I was in an abusive relationship with a girl on and off for like 7 years. I wouldn't like the direction my life would take if I continued to be in that situation.

Cycles of forgiveness become a thing in these sorts of relationships, Knowing whether to let go can break that cycle.

Forgive? Probably. Forget? No. Stay with her? No.

It's important to let resentment go but also do things that improve your life.

My girlfriend hit me once, violently but relatively weakly on the leg, because she knew I was lying to her about something and I wouldn't admit it. I made clear that it would be the only time she would ever do it.

It was a bad situation, but I forgave her and we recovered from it. I probably should have left her, though.

Like a serious hit where I'm bleeding or injured as a result? Nope, hell no. What's worse is that I can't even defend myself in this scenario. If I do I'd probably end up getting arrested.

No, I would not forgive and I would definitely leave. If a woman feels the need to attack me then Im going to assume that her desire to do so will not be a one time thing.

I expect adults to behave like adults at all times. I could never imagine a scenario where I would tell a female family member to stay if the roles were reversed.
