Harding had a larger role in the novel.

It's nice that he was able to get a cameo though. Ed Regis was completely written out.

I also haven't read the book in forever, but I believe that was Gennaro the blood sucking lawyer. Ed Regis was like the PR dude or some kind of Ingen exec who was put in charge of babysitting Hammond's grandkids during the tour. He gets fucked up by a baby t-rex if I remember right. The movie just combined the Gennaro and Regis characters.

Pretty much this.

Some of his dialogue is given to Hammond in the movie. He's the one who comments on Richard Kiley providing the voice of the automated tour guide and is the one who utters the memeable, "Spared no expense."
