The first...quarter or so of the game is kinda slow and has too many lame dirty jokes and fanservice moments. However, once it hits the first big moment, it never lets up until the end. I enjoy all the alternate endings that didn't make it into the anime, too.

Yeah all this. Some parts haven't aged well either but it's still among my favorite stories.

I think the early parts are good too. Some of the alternate endings are excellent, namely Ferris and Suzuha's.

It's good, definitely carried by its fun characters, but it's not GOAT tier in terms of VN stories.

Could not get through the PS3 version back when I played it years ago. I hear it gets great, but based on the early chapters I played, I found it to be a slog.

How many chapters in (or hours in) is that first big moment?

I am willing to bet you stopped literally 30 minutes before it got good, based on my memory of a certain scene's placement

Steins Gate gets better later on, but I wouldn't say it ever gets outright good. The second half still has many of the same problems as the first.

And yes, I know I've only seen the anime, but considering how people put that adaptation on a pedestal, I don't think my opinion on the story would be very different if I played the game. Unless the anime fundamentally changes the personality of, like, every character except Kurisu.

Nah, the anime is a pretty faithful adaptation, actually.

Although you do get a lot more insight into what makes Okabe who he is since you're playing from his perspective and thus you're privy to his thoughts in ways you aren't in the anime.

So Should I count these anime votes or not? Probably not.

Its not the same experience but also of I dont you get some sampling bias as those who start with the anime will only play the game if they really like it in most cases.

Yeah, I wouldn't count anime only votes, personally. It is a different experience, even if like you said, you're more likely to play the game if you enjoyed the anime. Dunno how many people played the game first!

S;G being a faithful adaptation is irrelevant, there's basically know other VN on the market you would count the anime for.

I mean, it is a very faithful adaptation of the True Route but it still cuts some content out and obviously doesn't include the alternate routes and there's some good/interesting stuff amongst that batch so that's a big reason I'm against counting anime-only votes here. =/

Yeah, I wont its just worth mentioning as the two would tell very different stories! Still, this is about game stories and the anime cannot replicate the unique factors the game is able to.

Yeah, I honestly wasn't a huge fan of anime Okabe, but getting some additional perspective into his thought processes helped me come around on him. That's one thing playing the game improved for me.

I honestly think it's justifiable to have a viable S;G opinion for just the aims, but a standard needs to be set.

Imagine if someone wanted to throw out a score for Umineko from IT'S anime?

Yeah, Umineko is the obvious example as to why allowing ratings of non-VG adaptations would be a bit perilous

The selection bias thing is irrelevant, especially since all sequels already have that factor apply to them.

I sincerely doubt my opinion of SG would change from playing the game, but there's too many examples where adaptations are garbage. So for consistency's sake, the anime-only votes shouldn't be counted, even if it's going to end up inflating the final score a lot.
