They were a developer/publisher Sony bought back for the PS1. Developed games like Destruction Derby, Wipeout, Colony Wars and they even published Lemmings. Interestingly enough despite being owned by Sony they could still release games for the Saturn and Nintendo 64 for a while.
Eventually they were rebranded to Studio Liverpool and then closed down right at the end of the PS3 generation. For someone who was rather significant for Sony back in the day (I remember that logo quite vividly) I barely see them talked about. I actually played Destruction Derby a couple of days ago and it's still a bit fun. Racing on that 8 figure track is still pretty chaotic. I think they were overall a bigger developer for PAL territories than American territories so that could be a factor. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... Copied to Clipboard!

Still mourn the loss of Wipeout & Rollcage
The handling of Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool reminds me of how Rare went under Microsoft. --- ooh ... Copied to Clipboard!

Still mourn the loss of Wipeout & Rollcage Yeah it is a shame. I think they were a big reason as to how Sony made a big footprint in Europe. According to wiki they had 40% of game sales there. By the time they are Studio Liverpool they barely feel relevant. The PS1 generation is interesting to look back on because a lot of stuff people complain about now was also there. I've seen people think that timed exclusives are a recent thing but it was common back then. It's also kinda crazy how many of PS1's big games also had PC ports. It's full circle in a way. --- Kind Regards, Darmik ... Copied to Clipboard!

I've seen people think that timed exclusives are a recent thing but it was common back then. It was more common back then. And many times they weren't timed. They were forever. It's also kinda crazy how many of PS1's big games also had PC ports. Strangely enough, some SNES games did too. Notable that unlike today where PC ports are usually at least equal...PC ports of PSX-first games were oft substandard. --- New England Patriots: Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, LIII Champions ...
