Changing a definition to force a desired outcome doesn't seem particularly scientific.

Especially when the attempt bungles the definition so badly it needs to be redone twice due to undesired exclusions.

And still leaves a definition that includes the word it's trying so hard to exclude.

Redefining the word 'planet' to exclude Pluto is definitely not a science issue. It's an issue of science communication, and that's fine also. But nothing has scientifically changed about Pluto or any other body in the solar system since the change was made.
