A Jacksonville mother has lost two of her adult sons to COVID-19. She also caught the virus with them.
She was vaccinated. They werent.
Its a parents worst nightmare, said a teary-eyed Lisa Brandon. The only reason Im doing this is to put the word out to please get vaccinated.
She lived with her sons on the Southside and said everyone got sick in late July.
But Aaron Jaggi, 35, and Free Jaggi, 41, got worse. So she took them to the hospital. Both contracted double pneumonia. Both were admitted into the intensive care unit and ultimately put on ventilators.
Free died on Aug. 12. Aaron passed away on Aug. 13. They died within 12 hours of each other.
This is horrible. I love my boys, said a weeping Brandon. They never made it home.
Brandons now lost all three of her children: her son David passed away five years ago.
My boys, they were my life, she said. Thats all I lived for, for them.
Brandon said she took the Moderna vaccine and credits that for her mild case. She said she couldnt convince her sons to get immunized.
I think they would be alive today if they would have gotten their shot, she said. I wouldnt have gotten it as bad. I wish I could have made them do it. And now its too late.
As she deals with loss and an empty home, which she now has to move out of because they shared rent, she hopes others learn a lesson from her terrible tragedy.
Family friends are trying to support her however they can.
I think Aaron and Free would be just blown away to see how many people cared about them, said family friend Brittany Pequignot. And how many people are stepping up to help their mom out in this tough time.

You cant. They drew a political line in the sand and nothing anyone says will change their minds, even their own leaders.

They wont. These losses to them are just unfortunate sacrifices for keeping our freedom!until it happens to one of their own family members. Then its too late. Anti-vaxxers are mostly a lost cause unfortunately.

Who is cheering? We sympathize with the family but its hard to feel that bad for the ones who died because they had every opportunity to get the vaccine. And people will blame the propaganda and say they were brainwashed, but they were probably two grown, able minded men. They let their politics beat actual logic. Thats unfortunately on them.

Nobody is celebrating, stop it with that. We're mostly sitting here shaking our heads at how obstinate folks can be in light of all of the data and examples of how serious this pandemic is

This shit is just ripping through communities and breaking families, I'm glad my family had the sense to get the shots but reading through this kinda shit nearly every day is fucking depressing, like is it really worth it? you hear and see people dying extremely fucking fast to this why take the risk

I mean just think about it, the government is giving it away for free, the government doesn't' give away shit for free, even the the "free" money people got will come back on them in the form of taxes, that's how serious this is, the government isn't even trying to screw you over with this like they do with every other thing because a dead citizen can't pay taxes

I'm glad I was able to convince my parents to get the vaccine as they are in their mid 60s. They aren't anti-vax but they had their reservations and wanted to "see" how it goes, they went and got it in March.

Nah, I know two anti-vaxxers who changed their minds and eventually took the vaccine. One of them pretty much scoffed at it, at first, but then he kept seeing the death toll rise and he gave in. Now he tries to deny that he was ever against it, but still makes comments about masks. The other was kinda quiet and still doesnt trust the doctors much. Its annoying to me, but they did take it.

Granted its only two people, but it is possible for some to change.

I'm very thankful to be in a similar boat - it depresses me to no end that my parents are still Trumpers, but they're also both medical professionals who've taken Covid seriously from the start, and never hesitated to get vaccinated. They were slightly at risk of falling for right-wing propaganda like 'it's just the flu' at the very beginning, but my dad's best friend was hit hard by Covid in March 2020 and nearly died, which I think went a long way towards snapping them to the full reality of the situation. Occasionally they let their guards down a bit at inopportune times and I have to say things like 'hey guys, I know you were planning on going back to church, but unfortunately new cases have skyrocketed in the past couple weeks,' but there's little to know pushback in these instances.

Incidentally that same friend - who I'll remind you nearly died from Covid - is now vocally anti-mask and anti-vax, something that confounds and distresses my parents to no end when the subject comes up. There's no way I'm going to be foolish enough to bring the very obvious politics into it after past dust-ups. But I do get a lot of solace in knowing that, at the very least, I can count on them to take the pandemic seriously.

Friends and family were all getting it, so I guess it was a bit of peer pressure so they could see each other again. That and you know how a lot of people jus dont want to be the first person to try the new thing, afraid theyll be the science guinea pig? When enough people take the vaccine and are perfectly fine, that fear goes away, at least for the reasonable people.
