My status card expired in March of 2020, couldnt cross because it required a 2 week quarantine in Canada and a 2 week quarantine in the US, so no work for a month, which is about $4200 money not earned.

Provided my enhanced drivers license from both Canada and the US, COVID vaccine card and my expired status card. I was crossing to pay a shit ton of bills and of course get my status card renewed. Apparently the customs officer has never heard of North American Indian as citizenship so I was pulled over and searched.

He got flustered by my answer to citizenship. Which is North American Indian. I told him I primarily live in St Clair Shores, MI but I have 2 places of residence in Russel woods Ontario and Oneida of the Thames.

Got pulled over, searched and after about an hour of waiting I spoke to a chief officer and got an apology from my detaining officer and was granted access to Canada.

Keep in mind, I had everything I needed to cross, I simply handed him my expired status card so he wouldnt question why I had both a US and Canadian drivers license

They don't got a sense of humor on the northern border?

Why does such an ID even expire in the first place...? Seems like a hassle for you folk, unfair.

Enhanced drivers licenses work as passports. I dont technically need either if my status card wasnt expired but it is, was, I got a new one not 20 minutes ago. Im just waiting for it to be printed

It last for 10 years to be fair. We have whats called a Red Card that doesnt expired but it basically a birth certificate that provides native status but you dont really carry that around. I dont even have mine, thats some shit my mom has stored god knows where.

Some states have EDLs that allow you to travel the border on foot/by car.

Funny story: back in like 2013/14 I was crossing the border with my family. All was well until we got asked about citizenship. I jokingly said well, we got 3 Indians and a pilgrim. Referring to myself and 2 daughters who both qualify for native status, and my wife who was the pilgrim. Welp, I wasnt funny to him so we got pulled over and had to prove our girls native status

Sorry for my ignorance, but why would your status matter for you having two drivers licenses?

It shouldnt, I just presented it because I was claiming North American Indian as my citizenship. Otherwise I would have to claim US or Canadian, which Im both.

I like how you're not allowed to joke about the goofy terms other people forced on ya. The irony.

Well at least it got worked out eventually

I already called you out for lying about this in another topic and you never replied lol.

Due to the pandemic the Government cancelled status cards "expiring" (not that they ever *truly* do, you just need to reapply a different way if you miss the deadline). It's literally right on the fucking website in like 3 different places.

Because they keep happening. Do you remember the empty box one I told? Got pulled over because I was dropping my cousin off at the bus station, which is right across the street from the tunnel crossing in Windsor. Spent maybe 10 minutes in Canada. I acknowledge it was suspicious no doubt. But I had a bunch of empty boxes in the back of my Denali. They pulled out and searched every single one. I was told I was good to cross and got stopped again because I didnt put the boxes they took out back in my truck.

I know youve probably heard the 3 Indians and a pilgrim story.

I must of missed your comment so allow me to respond. I didnt even need my status card to cross today. I had everything I needed. Status card absolutely expire. Ill provide a picture for ya to prove it. My tribe, Oneida of the Thames is not federally recognized by the US and were considered as a settlement and not a reservation so reapplying is indeed a hassle. I literally had to provide a birth certificate, residence and driver license to renew.

Dont puff your chest out thinking you know because sometimes what you read on the internet isnt true. You called me out for lying? Why would I lie about this? I gain nothing from this.

I literally know they have an expiration date (technically a "Renew Before" date) on them. I see them all the time.

But again, due to the pandemic, the government has literally indefinitely extended the validity of all status cards

https://www.sac-isc.gc.ca/eng/1100100032424/1572461852643

What is a valid status card

A status card is valid if it is:

available
not past the renewal date (not applicable during COVID-19 pandemic)
not suspended or revoked
not reported lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed
not found and returned to Indigenous Services Canada (ISC)

Not to mention you have up to a year past the "Renew Before" date for it to still be considered a "renewal" under normal circumstances, and you don't lose Status simply because your card is past the renewal date and you haven't renewed it yet.

And why are you posting a picture of the old-style card from almost a decade ago when you're talking about one that would be in the new style based on the renew before date lol

Ahhh, yeah, that makes sense. I still didn't know you could do that. So like, you don't need a passport travelling across North America (I'm talk Mexico down to Panama here) if you have that card/status?
I mean, it only seems right, but I never knew that.

So youre gonna ignore my tribe not being federally recognized? Why would I post a pic of an old one? Because I had to turn in my last one in to get a new one. That wasnt a rule before, so my status cards that I still have are pretty old, I got that one on my 19 or 20 birthday.

anything else youd like me to prove?

edit: and regardless of my status card, I was still required to quarantine for 2 weeks in Canada and 2 weeks in the US. Thats a month of no income. Honestly, I wish you were crossing the border with me. Clearly you know more than the border guys Ive felt with(I mean that btw).

ive got a good story from a few years ago when my grandpa died and my dad had an expired status card if youd like to hear it.
