I liked vanilla Witcher 3, but wasn't blown away by it

Do the DLCs make it a richer world or are they tacked on extra adventures? Worth another playthrough for it?

Blood and Wine is amazing and adds a whole new map + city to explore.

hearts of stone is just an extra area to the main map but still worth it.

B&W takes you to a separate(and amazing) map with a new story separate from the original and does give you what feels like a definitive end compared to vanilla.

Can you just play BW or do you have to be at a certain strength in the main quest?

I believe you can start a new character and it will auto-level you straight to the DLC range if you choose that option.

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.

They are both better than the main game.

if it works the way i think it works i wouldn't want to start fresh from the DLC. the reason being that the romance choice from vanilla carries over and i don't know if you're given a choice when starting fresh but personally i wouldn't want to have experienced the DLC without said choice.

Yeah I really liked how it felt like an extension of the ending, right down to moving to some faraway land together like Yennifer wanted

Some of the best ever made. Hearts of Stone takes the gold medal for story, Blood and Wine for content.

What would be the best way to play them? Play through the main quest first?

i just looked up what happens if you start fresh. yeah, now i know for sure i would have hated it if i didn't have a romance option from vanilla carried over.

better than the main game. HoS has a better story, BaW has a better area.

Blood and Wine plays like an epilogue so it's not a good place to start. I don't remember if HoS had a specific starting point or not
