If you say hi but don't tell me what you want, don't be surprised when I don't respond. "Hello" does not obligate me to a response. "Hello, can you check this?" does.

But, at least in public, saying hello is meant to elicit a response right? Usually the response is another hello.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well. Nobody just messages hello in Teams unless they need something.

Just say what it is you need right off the bat as opposed to hello and then waiting for me to respond back.

Instead of

Hello

Just say

Hello. I need ______________________________________________________________________

One of the people who works under me always starts off a teams message with just my name and it annoys me far more than it should.

"Compsognathus,"

[Me waiting around for like two minutes while she types up the actual message]

And even that is an improvement from before when she wouldn't send the actual message at all until I acknowledged her.

So she types in chat like she would an email? Yeah I've seen that a few times before. The hello is still worse though.
